What is micellar water

It seems that until recently we did not know anything about micelles, and micellar water was bought only in pharmacies. Now she takes pride of place in the lines of many cosmetic brands and stands on a shelf in the bathroom of every self-respecting girl. We can’t imagine how we managed without micellar water, it is so effective and functional.

This is what micellar water looks like under a microscope.

The main active component of any micellar water is tiny micelles, compounds of fatty acid esters. Once on the skin, they begin active work – they attract the smallest particles of fat, makeup, impurities and quickly remove them.

Composition

There are three types of micellar water.
  1. On the basis of lauryl glucoside и cocoglucoside – cosmetic derivatives of sugar and coconut oil. Micellar water, which contains these substances, in addition to actively removing impurities, tightens pores and reduces the production of sebum.

  2. On the basis of poloxamers – safe synthetic substances that dissolve and mix perfectly. Such micellar water rarely causes allergic reactions and soothes the most reactive skin.

  3. Based on emulsifier polyethylene glycol. It is safe, but, according to some reports, it can provoke dry skin.

Why is micellar water so popular?
  • It cleanses the skin without damaging it, – that’s why it was originally recommended and, in fact, created for sensitive skin.

  • Instantly removes makeup. No need to rub the face with a cotton pad for a long time – foundation, mascara and shadows are erased with a slight movement of the hand (persistent products may require more patience).

  • Less oftenthan other means causes allergic reactions and irritation – even if the skin is prone to them.

  • Micellar water universal – it can be used regardless of how old you are and what type of skin you have.

However, micellar water also has disadvantages.
  • After using it on the skin sometimes sticky film remains.

  • For some it provokes feeling of tightness and dry skin.

  • Micellar water is rare, but may cause allergic reactions – as a rule, additives are to blame for this: essential oils, plant extracts, etc.

Terms of use: step by step instructions

Many people use micellar water only as a mild makeup remover – moisten a cotton pad with it, wipe the skin with it, and then rinse it off with water. But its functionality is much wider. For example, micellar water based on lauryl glucoside and cocoglucoside, as already mentioned, can correct the imperfections of oily, problematic skin – reduce pores, reduce sebum production, etc. And dermatologists recommend using micellar water with poloxamers for everyday cleansing and moisturizing of dry sensitive skin.

Using micellar water is a pleasure.

Standard Skin Cleansing Procedure

This is how micellar water is usually used.

Waterless facial cleansing

You can’t wash your face with micellar water alone – it’s better to wash it off after all. If you don’t want to use running water, dampen a cotton pad with tonic and wipe your face and neck thoroughly with it.

How often can you use micellar water?
