How to use eye patches

How to use eye patches, what kind of product it is and what varieties of it exist – you will learn about all this from our article.

Why do you need eye patches?

You are mistaken if you think that eye patches are a relatively new product invented by Koreans. Cosmetic patches for the lower eyelids (eye pads) have been on the market for a long time. Although we must pay tribute to K-beauty: thanks to Asians, eye patches have become a global trend in skin care, and now they are produced by many brands – from the luxury segment to the mass market.

The patch is essentially a close relative of a sheet or gel face mask, created taking into account the specific features of the skin around the eyes.

A tissue or gel base impregnated with a concentrate literally sticks to the lower eyelid and in 10 minutes has a powerful moisturizing and refreshing effect.

Just like sheet masks, patches are especially good as an SOS remedy when you need to quickly:

  • eliminate puffiness;

  • get rid of signs of fatigue (dark circles);

  • smooth fine wrinkles;

  • give shine;

  • soothe the skin.

However, patches can be applied on an ongoing basis.

What eye care do you need? You will find the answer by answering the test questions.

How to stick patches correctly depending on their shape

Like a face mask, patches are applied to clean and dry skin without makeup.

Try storing them in the refrigerator for a more pronounced refreshing and draining effect – the cool temperature stimulates lymph and blood flow, reducing puffiness.

Despite the fact that patches are an easy-to-apply product, users often have a question about how to place them on their face.

The patches adhere tightly to the skin and saturate it with active ingredients.

There are no hard and fast rules for applying patches. But following the logic, they need to be glued with the narrow side towards the nose, and the wide side towards the temples.

They should be removed, starting from the far edge, picking up with your fingers. The remains of the product are not washed off, but are carefully driven in with the tip of the ring finger or removed with a cotton pad.

Patches shape

Patches come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Consider all options.

Crescent

The most functional classic shape with rounded or pointed ends.

Glasses mask

Formally, this is not quite a patch, but it works on the same principle. The goggle mask covers a large area, simultaneously caring for the skin of the bridge of the nose and upper eyelids.

Patches of other shapes

Korean brands produce rather large semicircular patches that cover the upper part of the cheeks; you can also find masks in the form of drops (a variation of the crescent moon) or hearts – “drops” glued together that must be separated before use. The form does not affect the essence and method of application.

How long to keep patches under the eyes and how often they can be applied

Patches are applied as needed, that is, at least every day, at any time.

  • In the morning to “wake up” and reduce puffiness.

  • In the evening, to relieve fatigue.

  • Before an important event as an express tool.

The patches must be used according to the instructions. Usually the exposure time varies from 10 to 20 minutes. Can patches be left overnight? In most cases, this makes no sense. However, there are exceptions. But more on that below.

The classic shape of the patch is a crescent.

What kind of patches to choose

The effectiveness of patches depends primarily on the composition with which they are impregnated. However, the material from which the base is made also matters, since it must have good absorbent abilities and at the same time stay securely on the face.

Material

Patches differ not only in the composition of the impregnation, but also in the material from which they are made.

  • Fabric, for example, from biocellulose, have the finest mesh structure and are well fixed on the skin.

  • Gel are a rather slippery jelly-like substance, which is good because it can absorb (and then give) a large amount of concentrate.

  • Collagen sheets are also excellent at absorbing moisture, however, this is not the collagen that affects the elasticity of the skin in creams. In this case, it has completely different functions.

  • Patches made of thin silicone are usually not impregnated with anything, but they cool the skin perfectly. They can be left overnight and used more than once.

Functionality

Usually eye patches have moisturizing and refreshing properties. Additional features include:

  • wrinkle smoothing;

  • lightening dark circles;

  • providing the effect of radiance;

  • firming and tightening the skin.

Patches are produced from different materials – from biocellulose to silicone.

Composition

Impregnation for patches is usually based on water and hydrating agents such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. The composition may also include:

  • caffeine, horse chestnut extract – ingredients known for their ability to improve microcirculation, help reduce swelling;

  • retinol – anti-aging component;

  • algae are responsible for hydration;

  • peptides – anti-wrinkle;

  • antioxidants and vitamins relieve fatigue;

  • a variety of patented molecules.

Terms of Use

How many times can eye patches be used? What to do with used patches? We answer: all patches, with the exception of silicone, are disposable. Throw them away after use. And you can’t sleep with them on your face.

Silicone patches – provided they are thin and light enough – can be left on overnight to prevent the formation of folds and wrinkles on the lower eyelids resulting from an unfortunate position during sleep (on the side or face in the pillow).
