The secret will not become apparent if you have a corrector in your beauty arsenal. It will help hide dark circles under the eyes after a night spent at the club, and pimples that appeared from the abuse of desserts. The main thing is to master the application techniques. We will tell you how to use the corrector for the face in this material.
What is a face corrector and what is it for?
Concealers vary in color (classic beige, green, purple), texture (more or less dense) and coverage. If you choose the right product and apply it correctly, you can erase almost any imperfections from your face like a magic wand.
What are you missing in your daily skin care – find out right now.
Concealer vs Concealer: What’s the Difference?
There is no agreement on this issue either among cosmetics manufacturers or among makeup artists. Sometimes the tool is called a “concealer”, and by all accounts it is a corrector.
Strictly speaking, correctors are a broader concept. And concealers are part of the corrector family because they perform the same tasks. However, there are nuances.
Texture. Concealer tends to be lighter and more pliable. The corrector is often dense or very dense.
Color. Concealers are always nude, unlike correctors, which come in all colors of the rainbow.
Purpose. The concealer is not intended for spot application, but for the correction of a particular area of the face. Unlike the corrector, which works both locally and globally. Concealer does not cover a pimple.
Shine. The composition of the corrector rarely includes shining and reflective particles, while the concealer often has a shimmer effect.
Application Concealer, unlike corrector, is applied over foundation
How to use a face corrector
The basic rule is that the corrector is applied before the foundation, and not on top of it. However, there are exceptions. The general instruction is:
after cleansing, moisturize the skin with cream;
if you use a primer, apply it;
dot the corrector on the problem area – with a brush, sponge, fingertips, using the built-in applicator – depending on the format of the product;
blend it with light driving movements without stretching the skin;
use a toner.
Conceal bruises and dark circles under the eyes
To mask under-eye circles, you will need a pink (for fair-skinned) or peach (for dark-skinned) corrector – such a reddish pigment neutralizes blue best. Before makeup, apply a conditioning (and fast-absorbing) eye contour product, preferably with a light texture.
Mark the application area with dots or strokes of the corrector.
Gently blend so that under the lower eyelid you get a figure that looks like an inverted triangle with blurry borders. Be careful not to stretch the skin.

hide wrinkles
Use a liquid corrector-fluid, it will not accumulate in the folds of the skin. Choose a shade 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone.
After cleansing, moisturize the skin with cream, let it absorb.
Apply corrector to the following areas:
under the eyes with an emphasis on the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet area);
on the back of the nose;
above the tick of the upper lip;
in the hollow between the lower lip and chin.
With a damp sponge, blend the corrector, as if driving it into the skin.
With a thin brush or applicator, apply the corrector directly to wrinkles.
Blend with a sponge.
Camouflage a pimple
For this purpose, you will need a green color corrector to neutralize redness.
Apply the green corrector directly to the pimple.
Press lightly with a clean finger to absorb the pigment.
Blend the borders and wait a minute.
Apply foundation.
Types of correctors for the face and their properties
The foundation, no matter how dense and super-resistant it is, evens out the relief of the skin of the face well, but far from everything camouflages (with the exception of special super-dense tonal products, such as Dermablend, Vichy ).
“Erasing” noticeable spots is the task of the corrector. Choose the format you like best. See what types of correctors for the face exist.
Pencil
A face corrector pencil can give a matte effect. But sometimes it contains a shimmer – reflective particles make imperfections less noticeable.
Corrector Dream Lumi Touch, Maybelline
Just the case when the corrector includes reflective particles, which is very handy when you need to mask dark circles and give the skin a glow (not to be confused with a greasy sheen).
Gotcha Covered Concealer Pencil, NYX Professional
A heavy-duty concealer with a plastic texture that completely conceals any imperfections.
Contact
The stick differs from the pencil in a softer texture, because its purpose is to mask the imperfections of normal and dry skin. The composition often contains moisturizing ingredients and oils.
Corrective SOS-stick Dermablend, Vichy
A corrective facial stick that covers dark circles under the eyes, hyperpigmentation and other imperfections. Possesses the high covering ability, stability and water resistance.
All Hours Stick, YSL
The stick can be used both as a tonal base and locally as a corrector. Waterproof. Creates a matte finish.
Cream
It has a fairly thick consistency and is applied with a brush or a damp sponge. Hides local defects, circles under the eyes, extensive redness, pigmentation. Allows you to adjust the contour of the face. A good choice for normal to dry skin.
Tonal corrector for the skin around the eyes Magic Concealer, Helena Rubinstein
Helps to hide dark circles and bags under the eyes to a great extent. Evens out skin tone around the eyes without emphasizing wrinkles. Covers signs of fatigue.
Liquid (fluid)
The light consistency makes the tool convenient and pleasant to use, but not the most reliable in terms of masking. Suitable for owners of sensitive skin, as it requires a minimum of effort when shading.
Tonal corrector for the skin around the eyes Effacernes Longue Tenue, Lancôme
Suitable for the skin around the eyes and hides dark circles. The unusual texture – an emulsion of oil and water – facilitates the use of the product. The formula gently cares for the skin, moisturizing it and smoothing wrinkles.
Compact
We advise everyone to pay attention to the corrector in the form of cream-powder:
oily skin will benefit from its matting properties;
owners of normal and mixed skin will love the velvety finish;
Aged and dry skin will suit a comfortable texture.
Automatic
The most promising format is a corrector in the format of an automatic pencil with adjustable dosage. The applicator can be in the form of a brush or a sponge pad. Guarantees spot application in the right amount.
Multifunctional concealer Instant Eraser, Maybelline New York
Concealer-corrector with pad applicator perfectly corrects the blueness under the eyes, gives radiance to this area due to the formula with goji berry extract and haloxyl. However, it can be applied not only to the lower eyelids, but to any place that requires a “veil of secrecy”.
BB cream eye roller Garnier
Reduces dark circles and bags under the eyes, eliminates signs of fatigue, and at the same time cares for the delicate skin around the eyes, moisturizing it and giving it radiance.
Palette of correctors
Palettes include tools of different shades and textures. Therefore, they are loved not only by makeup artists, but also by ordinary users. With such sets you can be sure that you will mask imperfections of any kind, color and severity.
Multifunctional foundation palette for the face Conceal, Correct, Contour Pallete, NYX Professional Makeup
Six shades of creamy texture will help solve various problems associated with uneven complexion.
How to choose a face corrector depending on its color
Since the functions of this product include color correction and neutralization of an unwanted shade, it is quite natural that correctors come in not only natural colors, but also the most unexpected colors. Each of them has its own mission. Below is a small guide that will tell you how to choose the right corrector for the face of the desired shade.
Purple corrector
And also lavender or blue neutralizes yellow spots on the skin, such as injection marks, healing bruises, yellowish pigmentation. It implies the mandatory use of foundation.
Yellow corrector
Suitable for camouflage of blue under the eyes and vascular network, as well as dark post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Pink corrector
Refreshes the skin around the eyes, especially if a blue-greenish pigment prevails in this area, and veins appear through the skin. For pale skin, a salmon shade is used, and for swarthy skin, peach. A pink tint helps to hide age spots, but only if the skin is very fair.
White corrector
Green corrector
Perfectly covers redness, including acne, spider veins and asterisks. To mask large areas with redness (for example, with exacerbation of rosacea or if sunburned), you can mix foundation with a green corrector and apply to the problem area.
Orange corrector
Orange and coral corrector perfectly covers brown pigment on dark skin: it can be age spots and circles under the eyes.
When buying a natural shade corrector, choose two products: one tone lighter and one tone darker than your skin color, so that when doing makeup, lighten some areas and darken others (we’ll talk about the basics of contouring in another article).
The most common mistakes when using a corrector
The bigger, the better
Not! Applying too much will only accentuate the area that needs to be covered, such as making a pimple or wrinkles more visible.
The wrong shade
If you’re using a natural shade corrector, make sure it’s skin tone or slightly lighter (but never darker) to make it look natural. It is advisable to use palettes, they always have white – for mixing and obtaining the optimal color.
Save on brushes and sponges
It is impossible to apply different products with the same tools for hygienic reasons. Wash sponges and brushes more often, and if you apply the product with your hands, then only clean them.
Concealer over foundation
In most cases, correctors are applied before foundation. An exception is a pencil or stick to hide only a popped pimple.
Blend thick corrector with cold hands
This is not the best solution, it only complicates the task. In any case, the sponge is the best choice for shading. Although the method of applying cosmetics is a matter of taste.
Apply concealer to unprepared skin
Of course, the skin must be pre-cleansed and moisturized. It also does not interfere with the base for makeup. The primer will make the surface of the skin smoother, and the corrector will lie more evenly.
