Babies cannot speak and cannot express their mood in words. However, they express emotions in a different way. The main thing is to understand.
Newborn babies are the most beautiful creatures in the world. They are tiny, defenseless, and they smell delicious. But is everything all right with him? Is he doing well? Not cold? Not hungry? It seems that the baby has obvious ways to show that something is wrong: whimper, make a grimace. But not only! Babies have a lot of ways to communicate with us, if only we can understand them.
Body Language
The best way to find out how your baby is feeling is to pick him up. If he melts in your arms, snuggles his head on his chest and there is a complete feeling that you are one whole, then everything is in order. But if the baby bends, you feel how tense he is, then something goes wrong, the baby feels discomfort.
Smile
Even newborn babies can smile. But this is an unconscious smile, the child is just learning to control facial expressions. A real smile, intended for you, will appear later – somewhere in the second month of life. Then she will serve as the best indicator of happiness. If the baby has not begun to smile, this is a reason to be wary.
Giggle
Children do not learn to laugh right away. This skill appears somewhere between the third and sixth months of life. But when they learn, they cannot be stopped – children laugh up to 300 times a day. But if the baby is too serious, take a closer look at him: maybe something hurts him?
Appetite
If the baby eats well, everything is fine with him. This rule works in most cases. Usually babies lose their appetite if they are unwell. Doctors even say that it is easier for the body to cope with the disease. And for us, a sudden change in appetite is a cause for alarm.
Dream
As adults, it is not uncommon for us to have trouble sleeping when we are nervous. It’s the same with children. If the baby is worried, he cannot calm down and fall asleep for a long time. A child who does not sleep well is a real disaster for the whole family. So the causes of infant insomnia must be clarified immediately.
Chatter
Baby babbling, lovely sound. Only children’s laughter can be compared with him. If the child is happy, he will babble almost all the time when he sees you, he has a lot of things to tell his mother about. This skill appears at about 4-7 months of life. But if the baby does not start to walk, it is worth asking a question to the pediatrician.
Humor
Believe it or not, children also have a sense of humor. Already in a year, the baby is able to understand what amuses you. He then provokes you to laugh over and over again – he is just as happy with your fun as you are with his own. So he tries to communicate, develops his social skills. If the child is not trying to interact with you, except “on business” – to eat or change diapers, then you may not be paying enough attention to him.
Eye contact
Vision in newborns is not the strongest sense organ. They begin to distinguish objects only after a few weeks. When this happens, eye contact will become one of the indicators of the baby’s condition. If the baby is uncomfortable, he will avoid this contact. In the same way, we do, if we are in the company of not very pleasant people.
Open mouth
It sounds strange, but an open mouth is an indicator of a baby’s happiness. If you are breastfeeding your baby, then as soon as you take him in your arms, he immediately opens his mouth – not only because he is hungry, but because the baby recognized your smell and is happy. After all, he loves you from the first second of his life.
It “shines”
By six months, kids already know how to recognize those with whom they most often interact: parents, grandparents, other close people. If the child is happy, then at the sight of his mother he literally begins to glow. This reaction of the baby is the best gift for any mom. If something is wrong with him, then the baby will react sluggishly and indifferently.
Separation from mom
If the child does not feel safe, he will react by screaming to attempts to put him in the crib and leave him alone. You won’t even be able to go to the toilet. There are few options: you need to find out what worries the baby. Otherwise, life will not seem like a fairy tale to both of you.
Reaction to sounds
If the baby suddenly stopped responding to his favorite song, flinching from the sudden barking of a dog, turning his head at his mother’s voice, we have bad news. This means either hearing impairment or your baby is deeply unhappy. So much so that he simply does not want to react to external stimuli. But while the baby is growing, he is interested in everything, everything is new.
All babies develop differently. But there are still common milestones. If a child is healthy, he feels that he is loved, that he is cared for, he will always be happy. And that means mom too.
