What is gallbladder stones?

This is a condition where deposits form in the gall bladder called stones. They can make the gallbladder malfunction. This results in symptoms such as abdominal pain, mainly in the right hypochondrium, flatulence or typical symptoms of follicular colic.

Who is at risk?

Women over 40 are primarily at risk. Overweight is also risk factors. People from this group should pay special attention to disturbing symptoms and take care of appropriate prophylaxis.

What are the symptoms of gallbladder stones, the first symptoms?

Very often, urolithiasis does not give any symptoms and is diagnosed accidentally during an ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity. Sometimes, however, there are symptoms such as severe colic or severe pain in the right side of the abdomen radiating to the back. On the other hand, chronic urolithiasis can cause various types of discomfort in the abdominal cavity with unclear causes.

Confirmed diagnosis – what next?

If, after consultation, usually with an internist and after an ultrasound examination, the suspicion of cholelithiasis is confirmed, a decision is made on surgical treatment. If the patient does not decide to undergo surgery, regular ultrasound control is also important, as the stone grows on average from 1 to 2 millimeters annually. Stone stones lasting more than 10 years increase the risk of primary gallbladder cancer, where the mortality rate is very high.

What is the surgical treatment in this case?

The Medicover Hospital uses a laparoscopic, minimally invasive method of removing the gallbladder and its contents without opening the abdominal cavity. This method also allows to minimize the surgical trauma, stress that accompanies the patient and shortens the time of wound healing. After the surgery, the patient leaves the hospital the next day, and after a week he returns to full fitness before the surgery.

What are people with gallbladder stones worried?

Often, but completely unnecessarily, there is a fear of staying on a restrictive diet for the rest of your life. After a few days of light diet, the patient returns to the normal diet after the surgery.
