The more pairs of shoes you have in your wardrobe, the higher your risk of having a callus problem. As it turned out, shoe fetishism has an unpleasant downside: low-quality shoes or simply not suitable for the individual characteristics of the foot will inevitably lead to the formation of corns.
Polls and studies have shown interesting statistics: 17% of men buy shoes that are not their size, and 80% of women surveyed reported that they permanently suffer from corns and ingrown nails. And only half of them turned to a specialist for help. These numbers can only say that corns, or hyperkeratosis, is a really widespread problem.
The main reason for the appearance of calluses on the feet is really the rubbing of shoes, and not only tight, but also too loose, which rubs the skin when walking. Also, calluses can cause fungal skin diseases, flat feet or excess weight, which puts a lot of stress on the foot. The beginning of the development of calluses is active hyperemia – an increased content of circulating blood at the site of pressure or friction of the skin. At the same time, there is a sensation of pain.
How to avoid the appearance of calluses?
For the prevention of calluses, you can use special moisturizers every day, make nourishing baths, scrub and treat the skin of the feet. Dermatologists claim that soda, salt and herbal baths also prevent the appearance of calluses, oak bark is especially useful, as well as the use of foods high in vitamin A. Please note: for patients with diabetes or diseases of the circulatory system, warm baths and the use of pumice are contraindicated.
First aid for calluses:
• use of prophylactic and therapeutic agents containing paraffin and mineral oils, softening and protecting the skin;
• application of a bandage with salicylic acid ointment, lanolin, pine rosin and other components to the affected areas.
If a callus has formed and burst after a while, the wound can be washed with hydrogen peroxide and a bandage with synthomycin emulsion or a tight-fitting plaster can be applied.
