How to transform an apartment for the holidays: designer tips

For a start, of course, you need to get some rest. Well, on the remaining days of New Year’s holidays – do the interior. Alena Podmasco, stylist of the Leroy Merlin company, tells how to keep within these days

– During the holidays, you can do a lot, but the most important thing is to have fun and relax before the start of the implementation of important New Year’s ideas. Therefore, it is better to concentrate on one thing – for example, the living room. And the first thing to do before updating this important room in the house is to carry out a large-scale cleaning. There is a lot of free time during the holidays, so be critical and thoughtful about the process. And it’s better to do it with the whole family. Remove unnecessary and random things. As a result, you should remember what the room looked like right after the last renovation. Now it will be easier to understand what exactly needs to be updated.

During such cleaning, you can find a lot of interesting things: old photographs, children’s or just forgotten drawings. If these things make you feel warm, frame them and hang them around the room is a great way to update your wall decor.

But even after cleaning, it’s too early to go to the store. Try rearranging the furniture first. It is important not to leave any object in its place, completely changing the automatic route around the room. It is very important to turn the furniture away from the TV when rearranging. This will help make the holidays a time for TV detox and focus on communication. Designers advise placing furniture so that the gaze falls on family photos, the shelves of an antique sideboard or a bookcase. Try to distract yourself from the screen and dissolve in warm festive evenings with family and loved ones.

Do not rush to throw away the old classic chair inherited from your grandmother. With a slight effort, it can be turned into a kitsch-style art object. It is enough to repaint it in a bright color – for example, in red. And drag it over with, say, a cloth with a print from comic book pictures. An unusual object will attract attention and also help freshen up the impression of the room.

Your room should already be significantly updated. Now is the time to get creative and create a new style. If redecoration is not part of your plans, the quickest way to update your design is to change textiles: curtains, rug, rug or bedspread, sofa cushions. It is better to buy all this at once, one color or two or three adjacent shades. The eyes of those entering the room will fall primarily on these bright, matching, stylish accessories. If you are thinking about cosmetic repairs and want to make one wall in the room bright, then the designers advise also to start by replacing the textiles. Large spots of color, such as carpet or curtains, can help you see how prepared you are. Choose textiles of the right color for the New Year holidays. And by the summer it will be possible to plan something more global.

In addition to textiles, it is better to choose a new decor. Buy ready-made options: including frames, posters, lamps, vases, flower pots – anything that supports the chosen direction in both texture and color. But you can devote the holidays to making decorative things with your own hands. For example, in view of the fashion for everything Soviet that conquers Europe, try to decorate the walls with pennants or weave a macrame pennant. You can also offer the family and guests the following game: take a large sheet of Whatman paper, draw a curving black line across it with a wide brush and gouache or a thick marker, and then cut the Whatman paper into as many pieces as there are people taking part in the game. Let each add a part of the line on his piece of paper with any drawing that comes to his mind. Then frame each sheet and hang it on the wall, replicating the original movement of the line. The result will be an interesting composition, which, firstly, is created in a very fun and unusual way. And secondly, the picture will unite its authors with a common pleasant memory and enrich them with topics for long conversations with warm home evenings.
