The first thing to teach you how to count to 10. Then you need to introduce the concepts of addition and subtraction. When the baby has mastered the material, he can be introduced to the two-digit values of the number. The most important point is to explain to the child that 10 and 1 dozen are equal numbers. To do this, use a visual method. Take 10 counting sticks and secure them with an elastic band. Repeat this experiment, demonstrating that 2 dozen is equal to 20, and so on.

Now you have to explain how to add and subtract with the transition to ten. This is a difficult task, but doable if you explain the steps in detail. For example, add 19 and 3. You can solve the example as follows:
- Divide the number into tens and ones. We get 10 + 9 + 3.
- Add units: 9 + 3. To make 9 turn into ten, add 1 to it. Subtract the number from three. We get 3–1 = 2
- Now the addition looks different: 10 + 10 + 2.
- Add tens with tens and add the remainder: 10 + 10 = 20; 20 + 2 = 22.
It will not be easy for a child to understand such a sequence the first time. The algorithm should be repeated systematically so that the baby learns to correctly solve such examples.
Useful tips to solve correctly and quickly
During training, it is necessary to use gentle tactics. Otherwise, the baby may develop a dislike for science. To teach your child to add and subtract quickly, use the following guidelines:
- Do not hurry. Train your baby in stages. You should proceed to mastering new material only if you are sure that the kid has completely mastered the previous one.
- Additional tools. Use counting sticks, cubes, pencils to illustrate the solution of the example.
- Money. Children learn to count more easily when they apply their knowledge in practice.
Remember to learn science in a relaxed environment. Nothing should distract the kid from the process.
