How to teach a child to divide by a column correctly, class numbers

Before teaching a child to divide by a column, he needs to explain simple mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction. In addition, the baby should know how multiplication differs from division and know the table by heart.

How to teach a child to divide the column correctly

Children begin to study division in grade 3. At this point, they should fully understand addition and subtraction, and study the multiplication table. Without this knowledge, it will not be possible to understand the division.

Before you teach your child to divide by a column, study the multiplication table with him.

First, explain the principle of division to your child. This is easier to do with an illustrative example. Ask him to split the candy equally among the toys or family members. And gradually complicate the tasks. The main thing is to convey to the child that division is the opposite of multiplication. And he needs to learn how to use the table “vice versa”. And for this you have to learn it “by heart”.

The child must distinguish between “dividend” from “divisor” and “private”. Therefore, explain to your child what these concepts mean and show them by example.

Develop a love of mathematics in your child, because kids can more easily perceive information that is interesting to them. Therefore, apply the knowledge gained in your homework, daily activities and games. The main thing is to exercise with a smile, then classes will become a heavy duty.

Divide numbers: a good example

For example, start with the three-digit number 315 and divide it by 5. Step-by-step instructions:

    1. Write down the numbers and separate them with a corner.
    2. The numbers are divided from left to right, so first we try to divide 3 by 5.
    3. Since the three cannot be divided by 5 without a remainder, we take the next digit to it and divide already 31.
    4. Using the selection method, we calculate the multiplier – 6.
    5. We write this figure under the “corner”, and 30 under 31.
    6. Now we subtract the number 31 from 30. As a result, we get one.
    7. It is not divisible by 5, so we demolish the remaining five to one.
    8. Divide 15 by 5 and get three. We write it down under the corner after the six.
    9. The result of division is 63. Write the number in the answer.

To consolidate knowledge, ask your child 5-6 examples. In doing so, ask them to solve it yourself. If everything works out for the baby, then complicate the task for him and give examples with four and five-digit numbers. In the future, go to tasks in which the divisor is two-digit.

Teaching a child to divide in a column is not so difficult. The main thing is to be patient and explain the basics of mathematics to the kid. Then he will master science and homework will not be a problem for him.
