When working in a spreadsheet editor, it often becomes necessary to swap lines in a spreadsheet document. To implement this simple procedure, there are many different methods. In the article, we will consider in detail all the methods that allow us to implement the procedure for changing the position of lines in an Excel spreadsheet document.
First method: moving lines by copying
Adding an auxiliary empty row, into which data from another element will be inserted later, is one of the simplest methods. Despite its simplicity, it is not the fastest to use. Detailed instructions look like this:
- We make a selection of some cell in the line, above which we plan to implement the raising of another line. Click the right mouse button. A small special context menu appeared on the display. We find the button “Insert …” and click on it LMB.
- A small window appeared on the screen, called “Add Cells”. There are several options for adding elements. We put a mark next to the inscription “line”. Click LMB on the “OK” element to confirm the changes made.
- An empty row has appeared in the tabular information. We make a selection of the line that we plan to move up. You need to select it in its entirety. We move to the “Home” subsection, find the “Clipboard” tool block and click LMB on the element called “Copy”. Another option that allows you to implement this procedure is to use a special key combination “Ctrl + C” on the keyboard.
- Move the pointer to the first field of an empty line added a few steps ago. We move to the “Home” subsection, find the “Clipboard” tool block and left-click on the element called “Paste”. Another option that allows you to implement this procedure is to use a special key combination “Ctrl +V” on keyboard.
- The required line has been added. We need to delete the original row. Click the right mouse button on any element of this line. A small special context menu appeared on the display. We find the “Delete …” button and click on it LMB.
- A small window appeared on the screen again, which now has the name “Delete Cells”. There are several removal options here. We put a mark next to the inscription “line”. Click the left mouse button on the “OK” element to confirm the changes made.
- The selected item has been removed. We have implemented a permutation of the lines of a spreadsheet document. Ready!
Second Method: Using the Paste Procedure
The above method involves performing a large number of actions. Its use is advisable only in cases where it is necessary to swap a couple of lines. If you need to implement such a procedure for a large amount of data, then it is better to use other methods. A detailed instruction of one of them looks like this:
- Click the left mouse button on the serial number of the line, located on the panel of coordinates of the vertical type. The entire row has been selected. We move to the “Home” subsection, find the “Clipboard” tool block and click LMB on the element that has the name “Cut”.
- Right-click on the coordinate bar. A small special context menu appeared on the display, in which it is necessary to select an element with the name “Insert cut cells” using LMB.
- Having performed these manipulations, we made it so that the cut line was added to the specified place. Ready!
Third Method: Swapping with the Mouse
The table editor allows you to implement line permutation in an even faster way. This method involves moving lines using a computer mouse and keyboard. The toolbar, editor functions, and context menu are not used in this case. Detailed instructions look like this:
- We select the serial number of the line on the coordinate panel that we plan to move.
- Move the mouse pointer to the top frame of this line. It is converted into an icon in the form of four arrows pointing in different directions. Hold down “Shift” and move the row to the location where we plan to move it.
- Ready! In a few steps, we implemented moving the line to the desired location using only a computer mouse.
Conclusion and conclusions about changing the position of rows
We found out that the spreadsheet editor has many methods that change the position of lines in a document. Each user will be able to independently choose for themselves the most convenient method of movement. Summing up, we can say that the method involving the use of a computer mouse is the fastest and easiest way to implement the procedure for changing the position of lines in a spreadsheet document.
