How to survive the New Year holidays: 5 rules

You look forward to them, but instead of the long-awaited happiness, they sometimes bring disappointment. Olivier and tangerines do not please, the chiming clock reminds of age, two weeks of respite – of the work that will accumulate during the holidays …

On New Year’s holidays, the usual way of life changes, and the body sometimes reacts to any, even the most positive change, as if it were stress. Many get to the finish line already tired, hence apathy or sadness instead of joy and pleasant excitement. There is a special name for this condition – “holiday depression”. How to avoid it?

1. Get things done a few days before the holidays

So you will have time to slowly and with pleasure choose gifts for relatives and friends and gradually transfer your psyche to the “vacation” mode. If you still have to go to the office these days, try leaving work half an hour early. A short walk around the festive city is already very good.

2. Give away debt

Even if we are talking about seemingly insignificant trifles: you forgot to answer a letter to a friend you haven’t seen for a long time, you didn’t send photos from your parents’ anniversary, you didn’t return a book on business modeling to your colleague, return these debts.

A separate big topic is debts to yourself. Make a health check-up, propose your candidacy for a project that you have been dreaming about for a long time, write a story whose idea has been spinning in your head for a long time, or decide and finally confess your love – it would be good to figure it all out before the end of the year.

3. Get yourself a detox

The toxins that the body accumulates by December are one of the reasons for weakness and bad mood at the end of the year. After a festive feast, by the end of the holidays, some come tired, with an unhealthy complexion and a couple of extra pounds.

How to avoid it? One or two weeks before the New Year, start arranging fasting days for yourself. You don’t need to starve, it’s enough to sit on vegetable and fruit smoothies or green smoothies a couple of times a week. Get a lymphatic drainage massage or algae wrap, swim in the pool or just go to the bath – this time-tested method will help you recover after the end of the holiday marathon.

4. Follow the one plate rule

This means that the plate should not be filled until the previous portion has been eaten. Nutritionist Rimma Moisenko also advises to limit each serving to the size of a lettuce leaf and accompany each glass of wine you drink with a glass of clean water. Move more, talk and dance more – this will help divert attention from food and not gain excess. And the easiest way to not overeat at the table is to have dinner on December 31 around 7-8 pm.

5. Break patterns

From time to time to celebrate the New Year according to the same scenario, in the same company is good for those who love stability. But there are many unusual scenarios for celebrating the New Year: you can go to a skating rink or a water park, sign up for some unusual quest with a company, fly a helicopter or a hot air balloon, run a marathon, or have a heart-to-heart talk with a complete stranger, believing in the theory of six handshakes . The one from the first “Fir Trees”, according to which every person on Earth knows another through six acquaintances.
