Food storage – salad drawer
Keep vegetables and fruits in it. Before storing in the refrigerator, wash them thoroughly, and then wrap them in paper or plastic with ventilation holes. This way you will protect them from pollution. For salads and herbs, try wrapping them in a damp paper towel before storing. Thanks to this, you will prevent them from drying out and keep them fresh for longer.
Food hygiene – temperature
Remember to set temperature in the refrigerator at 0-5 degrees C. Then the food will deteriorate more slowly. At this temperature, bacteria are unable to multiply.
Food leftovers
Keep all leftovers in airtight, transparent containers or packages. They keep the freshness of the food. Divide leftovers into small portions to let them cool down faster. Some mold spores survive the cooking process and can germinate if food is kept at room temperature long enough.
Also pay attention to the use-by dates.
Do not keep leftovers from soups, tuna, cranberry sauce or other dishes in cans. After opening the can, the remaining metal may leave a characteristic aftertaste.
How to Store Food? Common mistakes
It is worth knowing that you should not put hot meals in the refrigerator. Why? First of all, you can damage the equipment in this way – the generator then starts to work more intensively, and this can lead to a failure. Second, such a habit makes us use a lot more energy. So it is harmful to the environment, but also to our wallet. It is best to cool the finished dish to room temperature and then put it in the refrigerator.
If you care about the environment and care about the fate of the planet, do not open the refrigerator door too often and for long periods. This raises the temperature inside the device, and thus the refrigerator has to work harder to cool everything down again.
General rules for the storage of food products
Make sure the refrigerator is never overloaded. Pushing the last piece of food in at any given moment may seem like a good idea, but it may block the cooling system. There is also a risk that you do not close the refrigerator door properly.
Does your diet need supplementation? You will find the necessary ingredients in the set of vegan supplements – Zinc + Kelp + Omega-3 + Vitamin D3.
Always keep new stocks with products with a shorter shelf life. Yes, the rules of a commercial kitchen should also apply to your home. Make sure you store the products in accordance with expiry date. Thanks to this, you will not waste food and you will save a lot.
Remember that individual products should be at least 1 cm apart. This way you will ensure airflow and avoid food becoming rancid.
What else is worth remembering?
Never keep open cans. Otherwise, you can increase the risk of contamination, especially acidic foods. If you absolutely want to insert it, put it in the appropriate container first.
Too high temperature in the refrigerator most often it results from overload, blockage of cooling agglomerates or incorrect setting of the thermostat. If the device does not have a built-in thermometer, you can always buy it separately. Thanks to this, you can check the temperature in the refrigerator on an ongoing basis. Remember that the correct temperature is 0-5 degrees Celsius.
