To stock up on this delicious snack for future use, it is important to know how to store dried fish correctly.

Where to store dried fish?

Sometimes dried fish is simply put in a plastic bag and left until the appropriate time. It is not recommended to do this, as the packaging is easily damaged by sharp parts of the product and provokes the development of mold. As a result, the fish quickly becomes unusable.

To preserve the properties and consistency of the product for up to 5 months, you need to use the correct packaging:

  • linen bags for products;
  • wicker baskets;
  • multilayer paper bags;
  • boxes made of cardboard or wood.

Storage containers that do not meet sanitary requirements often lead to negative consequences. Mold growth, salt crystallization, the development of putrefactive processes and infestation with parasites are some of the problems that a snack of frivolous manufacturers can face.

How to store dried fish at home?

Admirers of this delicacy are often betrayed by fish hung right on the balcony, in the yard or in the barn (from the owners of private houses).

  • According to the rules for storing the product, such a room should be cool, dark and dry.
  • To prevent the appetizer from drying out and retaining its taste, it is wrapped in several layers of newspaper or paper, and only then hung with hooks on a rope.
  • In such conditions, the fish will be suitable for use within six months.
  • If this period needs to be increased, it is recommended to send the product to the freezer, where it will lie for a whole year.
  • You do not need to freeze the fish, but leave it in the refrigerator, where it will retain its qualities for the same time, but it may dry out.
  • Another condition for the preservation of the original appearance is the temperature below 7 degrees.

What to do for those for whom the dimensions of the refrigerator do not allow storing a lot of snacks for a foamy drink?

  1. It is required to sterilize a large glass jar, put the fish in it and seal it tightly with a lid.
  2. If the product is too large and does not fit into the container, it is cut into pieces of acceptable size.
  3. To ensure an oxygen-free environment in the container, you can light a small candle inside.

Another way is to add a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol to the bottom of the can.
