How to store a fur coat

We clean the house

  • it is better to gently wipe local contamination with a swab dipped in alcohol.
  • you can try to clean contaminated places with bran heated in a pan: sprinkle several times and gently sweep away.
  • colored astrakhan fur and white hare fur are cleaned with oatmeal or rye flour in a similar way.
  • white fur – with a mixture of magnesium carbonate and gasoline: apply the mixture to the stain, and then brush off the dried powder.
  • old fur will shine if moistened with glycerin or vinegar and, without allowing it to dry, wipe with a cloth soaked in alcohol.
  • dirty, greasy fluffy fur (except for white and light gray) can be cleaned along the pile with a sponge dipped in a mixture of starch and refined gasoline.
  • dark fur can be cleaned along the pile with a brush dipped in refined gasoline to which a drop of any detergent has been added. Then the fur is wiped with starch until the smell of gasoline disappears.

At the end of cleaning, the fur should be combed with a metal comb (this does not apply to astrakhan fur).

We carry to dry cleaning

Better, of course, to dry-clean your fur coat. Cleaning a mink coat in the Diana network, for example, will cost you 2 rubles. In addition, large dry cleaners accept natural fur products for storage. Specialized fur refrigerators are now becoming more and more popular. After all, it is very convenient: you not only free up space in the closet, but also get a guarantee that your fur coat will not lose its presentation over the summer.

For clarity: a month of storage of a mink coat in the Diana network will cost you 690 rubles, rabbit fur is cheaper – 480 rubles. Before depositing the fur coat, it is imperative to clean it and, if necessary, carry out minor repairs (it can be done in the same dry cleaner).

When buying a fur product, large Russian manufacturers usually provide after-sales service for their things: storage, repair and consultation. In Moscow, such services are offered firm Panda, Tatiana Dorozhkina Fashion House, Second Fur. Ekaterina company in addition to repairs, it provides free storage of its products for the first year.

We store it correctly

A fur coat must be stored on a hanger with wide shoulders (wire or narrow – will not work) at a temperature from plus 5 to plus 20. It is best to pack it in a dense fabric (by no means plastic!) Case. Before packing your fur coat, check that it is dry. Fur products are afraid of moisture, and if the fur coat gets wet, it must be shaken and dried on a coat hanger at room temperature. In no case do not speed up the process by hanging the fur coat in the sun or over a radiator.

It is good to knock out a dry fur coat with a thin flexible rod. The main thing is not to overdo it, so as not to damage the hairline.

Don’t forget to put in your case (or in your pockets) a moth repellent, or if not, a sachet with dry geraniums, lavender, wormwood, dried orange peels, or scented soap.

It is desirable that the fabric cover for storing fur products is blue. For white and blue furs, this is a must! In this case, the fur will not fade and lose color.

We clean the house

  • Use suede brushes to remove dried-on dirt.
  • Clean the sheepskin coat with soapy water with the addition of ammonia (ratio 1: 4). Using a cotton swab dipped in this solution, wipe the contaminated area. Without letting dry, wipe with a cotton swab dipped in clean water with the addition of a small amount of vinegar (1 teaspoon per liter of water). Blot the damp surface with a clean cotton cloth.
  • For light-colored products, you can use a solution of milk and baking soda (1 teaspoon of baking soda per 250 ml of milk). Remaining marks should be washed off warm. After drying, the places of contamination are wiped with the finest emery paper, salt or ink eraser. Finishing with a special rubber suede brush will give the product its original look.
  • Sheepskin coats with embroidery or appliqué should be cleaned gradually. First, the embroidery is cleaned with gasoline, and then the sheepskin coat itself is cleaned using one of the above methods.
  • Dry sheepskin products on hangers away from heating appliances, not in the sun. Do not use a hairdryer for this.
  • When the sheepskin coat is dry, keep it in your hands thoroughly until the skin becomes soft.

We carry to dry cleaning

It is very important to dry-clean the sheepskin coat on time, without waiting for the new cold season. After all, if it has lain for six months, no one will give you a guarantee in the dry-cleaner that they will be able to remove old stains from it. In addition, a dirty thing is “tastier” for a moth.

If a thing has sat down or is deformed during wearing, it will be stripped off and, with the help of a special mannequin, returned to its original shape. The faded sheepskin coat will be tinted. If necessary, they will be treated with a special water-repellent impregnation – this protective layer will not only protect the sheepskin coat from moisture, but also significantly delay its next “visit” to the dry-cleaner. For comparison, cleaning a long sheepskin coat with water-repellent impregnation in “Diana” will cost you 1 rubles, with impregnation and toning – 400 rubles.

We store it correctly

Sheepskin coat should be stored on wide shoulders in a linen cover so that it “breathes”. We put the same anti-moth products in pockets or a cover that are also suitable for fur.

How to store a sheepskin coat

  • Leather gloves are washed in lukewarm soapy water. When rinsing, it is recommended to add a few drops of glycerin to the last water.
  • Colored leather gloves are cleaned with bread crumb.
  • Suede gloves are cleaned with a solution of ammonia and wiped with a solution of vinegar (as in the case of a sheepskin coat). You can wash them, putting them on your hands, in warm water with the addition of detergent for woolen fabrics. Then wrung out, wrapped in a towel, and dried at room temperature. White suede gloves are bleached using the composition: 1 glass of warm water, 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon of ammonia.

The dry-cleaner will charge you about 350 rubles for a pair of leather gloves.

Ducks and geese are water birds, so jackets filled with natural down and feathers are completely washable. To do this, use the gentle wash at the lowest temperature. Dry the down jacket on a hanger. It is best to hang it out in the sun or over a radiator. Fiddle with the filler periodically, straightening the clumps, so that it dries faster. After that, shake the down jacket vigorously (it is better to turn it upside down) and straighten the down to restore its previous bulk.

You can dry clean your down jacket for about 600 rubles.

Before putting shoes away for seasonal storage, they must be thoroughly washed, dried, cleaned, greased with a protective cream and ventilated.

  • To eliminate the unpleasant odor, wipe the inside of the shoes with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide.
  • Before long-term storage, experts advise you to disinfect your shoes. To do this, you can use purchased products, or disinfect at home: moisten two cotton swabs with vinegar essence and place inside the shoes. Put the shoes themselves in a plastic bag and tie it tightly. In this position, the shoes must be kept for 10-12 hours.

After that, your boots are ready for storage. Insert spreading pads into them or stuff the capes with crumpled newspaper and, putting them in a box, feel free to send them to the closet or to the mezzanine. Please note that long tops also need spacers (if the store has not been preserved, you can fill the tops with newsprint).

The best place for shoeboxes is where sunlight and moisture cannot penetrate.
