How to stop being depressed?
Human beings are made like this: ups and downs, positive moods like little blues. Nothing could be more normal to feel moments of slight depression, if this does not last (not to be confused with depression, which sets in over time). These blues can be solved with little tips, more quickly.
Put your body in motion
Whether it’s gardening, a walk around the block, dancing in your living room, stretching at home on your mat, or swimming laps, everything is good to take to get your body back in motion.
It is indeed essential not to let our body drift, because the mind follows closely … Physical activity indeed triggers the secretion of well-being hormones, endorphins. These natural substances, similar to morphine, are effective against pain, tension, and give us an impression of euphoria. The more we are active, the more we will be proud of ourselves, the more we will secrete endorphins, which are prolonged even after the effort, and the more quickly we will come out of our temporary state of depression!
Better in our body, we are better in our head.
Exposing yourself a little more to the light
Easy to do in summer, a little harder in winter. But it is an element to remember and to respect in his schedule, even when the days end at 17 pm… The lack of light has a very harmful effect on our morale. Moreover, many people, who usually feel in good shape in spring and summer, feel a depression in winter and late autumn: it is the seasonal depression, linked to the lack of light.
The body goes into “night” mode, and everything is idling. It is then advisable to make the effort to go and gather the slightest ray of sunshine, and to expose yourself for a minimum of 20 minutes, and at best a good hour. The best time for this is to choose your lunch break and go for a walk if possible in nature (park, garden, woods, etc.).
We can also try light therapy, often effective when there is no other solution to find a ray of sunshine. Under an artificial white light, imitating the sunlight, we replenish the light and vitamin D.
Stay in touch with others
Whether it’s to chat, have a coffee, share a good meal or confide in a friend, it is essential to maintain a bond with the people around us. Family or friends, neighbors or trusted colleagues: reaching out to them, expressing what we feel in simple words can soothe us and get us out of our torpor.
Otherwise, you can also talk to a psychologist in order to get out the negative emotions or dark thoughts that arise. This creates a liberating effect, which instantly relieves us.
In general, avoid staying in his corner to rehash, and spin in his wheel of negative thoughts like a hamster. For that, nothing better than to chat with a familiar and benevolent voice.
Take care of your plate
“May your food be your first medicine”: this quote, attributed to Hippocrates, confirms that the content of our plate greatly influences our state of health and our mental state. Eating well won’t get you out of deep depression, but it can be a good start to get better. Certain foods in particular are rich in minerals and vitamins essential for morale, such as magnesium, iron and group B vitamins.
Magnesium is found in nuts and oleaginous fruits, chocolate (to eat in small quantities). Iron is found in large quantities in red meat, seafood, and lentils. Group B vitamins, the lack of which causes fatigue and poorer resistance to stress, are found in whole grains, eggs, vegetable oils and legumes.
Also remember to eat enough fresh fruit, rich in vitamins, and avoid overloading your body with fast sugars, and too acidic dishes such as fast-food sandwiches, pizzas.
The main thing is to have fun overall, and to avoid excess. If you lack appetite, remember that your appetite comes with eating, and that it is stimulated in the presence of a loved one.
In front of a good comic film, a series, a joke from a friend: everything is valid for relaxing your zygomatics and sketching smiles, which are excellent for morale.
Indeed, as soon as we laugh, the body causes a secretion of endorphins (hormones of well-being), ultra positive and beneficial for our mind.
