How to sleep comfortably for pregnant women, is it possible to sleep on your stomach
During the period of childbearing, favorite sleeping positions become not only uncomfortable, but also unsafe. In order not to harm the fetus, the expectant mother should know how pregnant women can sleep, and which positions it is better to refuse.
How to sleep during pregnancy?
The normal duration of sleep for a woman in an interesting position is at least 8 hours. In order for the body of the expectant mother to have time to restore strength, you need to go to bed no later than 23 hours, and wake up at 7-8 in the morning.
Knowing how to sleep comfortably for pregnant women will help to avoid nighttime anxiety and lack of sleep:
- up to 10-12 weeks, the uterus is small and reliably protected by the pubic bones, so you can rest in any usual position;
- up to 20 weeks it is recommended to sleep in the “embryo” position on the right or left side;
- after the 20th week, the safest position for a night’s sleep is on the right side.
Rest on the left side during pregnancy normalizes blood circulation and relieves stress from the vena cava located to the right of the uterus. If you sleep on the right side, the heart and kidneys are resting. It is most convenient to put a special pillow for pregnant women under the knee of the upper leg. With its help, you will be able to fix the correct posture and not roll over on your stomach in a dream.
An alternate change of position is considered optimal, when the expectant mother turns from left to right side 3-5 times a night. Such rest is recommended even with breech presentation of the fetus in the uterus.
Can you sleep in other positions?
Is it possible for pregnant women to sleep on their stomachs – this question worries those who are used to falling asleep in this position. You can lie on your stomach only up to 10-12 weeks. In the second trimester, when the fetus is growing, sleeping in this position is not only uncomfortable, but also dangerous for the baby.
Sleeping on your back will also not bring relaxation; in this position, a large fetus presses heavily on the internal organs, slowing down blood circulation. Often, while sleeping on the back, a pregnant woman experiences pain in the sacrum and lower back.
If it is completely uncomfortable to rest in a prone position, doctors allow the expectant mother to sleep reclining. Placing 1–2 pillows under your back will not endanger your baby and unload the spine.
Sleeping in the correct position is not the only task of a pregnant woman. To avoid an increase in the tone of the uterus, you can not get out of bed abruptly. You can take a sitting position only by turning on your side in advance. The baby’s health depends on the position in which the expectant mother will rest. Do not assume uncomfortable positions and always be careful not to make sudden movements.
