The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, so it is important to seek the best possible protection against coronavirus infection and hospitalization due to infection. It is about vaccination against COVID-19, which is also available to Ukrainian refugees in Poland. How to sign up for vaccination, being a foreigner of Ukrainian nationality?
- Every person who comes to Poland from Ukraine due to the armed conflict has the right to a free vaccination against COVID-19
- Ukrainians must fulfill one condition: to have an identity document
- The Ministry of Health recommends vaccinating adults with Johnson & Johnson, and children with the mRNA vaccine, but you can use vaccines from other manufacturers available in Poland.
- An initial screening interview questionnaire should be completed before vaccination. These questionnaires are also available in Ukrainian
- More information can be found on the Onet home page

Step 1. Prepare an identity document
If you came to Poland from Ukraine after February 24, 2022, you can get medical care free of charge. This also applies to preventive vaccinations, in particular against COVID-19. There is one condition: you must have an identity document. It can be an identity card, a passport or a temporary foreigner’s identity card – TZTC. The document will need to be shown both when visiting a doctor and at the vaccination center. It is important that it is the same document every time.
Step 2. Go to the doctor
Admission to vaccination against COVID-19 is possible only for people with an electronic referral for vaccination. Such an electronic referral is issued by a general practitioner, so you need to go to him to receive a vaccination referral.
It is enough to go to the nearest point of primary health care (primary health care – ed.) of a polyclinic or hospital and make an appointment with a general practitioner, and then express your desire to get vaccinated against COVID-19. During the visit, the doctor will issue an electronic referral. You can also get a referral directly from a vaccination center if there is a doctor or other person authorized to issue an electronic referral.
Importantly, you do not need a PESEL number to receive an e-referral for a COVID-19 vaccination. When issuing a referral, the doctor will enter the number of your identity document in the “PESEL number” field.

Step 3. Select the vaccination point
If an electronic referral for vaccination against COVID-19 has already been issued, you can go for vaccination. A map of vaccination points across Poland is available here. It is worth choosing the most convenient place for you, for example, the closest to your current place of residence / temporary stay, so that getting to the point was as easy as possible.
You can make an appointment at the vaccination center by choosing a specific date and time of vaccination. The easiest way to do this is:
- through the hotline – number 989
- by sending an SMS message: SzczepimySie to the number 664 908 556
- or directly at the selected vaccination site.
However, it is not necessary. There are many vaccination centers where you can come without an appointment and get vaccinated on the spot. When registering for vaccination, you must have the number of the document that is indicated on the electronic referral (in this case, a document confirming your identity).

Step 4. Fill out the questionnaire
The questionnaire for the initial screening interview must be filled in at the vaccination site. It is designed to decide whether you can get the vaccine on that day. The questionnaire contains questions about your current well-being, allergies, chronic diseases, as well as possible contacts with a person infected with the coronavirus and who recently had symptoms of COVID-19.
The questionnaire also states that you agree to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
With the questionnaire filled out, go to the vaccination, where a qualified medical worker will decide whether you can be vaccinated.
You can also fill out the questionnaire before visiting the vaccination center by downloading it from the government website (here). Take the printed and completed document with you to the vaccination center.
Step 5: Get the COVID-19 vaccine
The last step is vaccination. Five vaccines against COVID-19 have been approved in Poland:
- Comirnata mRNA vaccine (Pfizer / BioNTech)
- Spikevax mRNA vaccine (Moderna)
- Vaccinia vector vaccine (AstraZeneca)
- Vaccine against COVID-19 Vector vaccine Janssen (Johnson & Johnson).
- Protein vaccine Nuvaxovid (Novax).
The Ministry of Health of Poland recommends vaccinating adult Ukrainians with a one-time Johnson & Johnson drug, although it is possible to vaccinate with another drug. On the other hand, children in Poland are vaccinated only with the mRNA vaccine, so this rule also applies to Ukrainian children.
- Ukrainian children will be necessarily vaccinated. The Ministry of Health explains the rules
Vaccines from various manufacturers are available at vaccination centers. It happens that in a certain point there are drugs from two or more manufacturers. Detailed information about this can be obtained directly from the vaccination center.
If you have already been vaccinated and have, for example, one or two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in your country, you can continue your vaccination schedule in Poland. The way of registration is similar, the doctor or a person who has the right will inform you about the details
carry out vaccination at the vaccination point. If you are in doubt, you can call the hotline 989, which is also available in Ukrainian.
The above instructions apply to both adults from Ukraine and children. Minors must come to the vaccination center under adult supervision.

We remind you that from February 25, 2022, persons who cross the border between Poland and Ukraine due to the armed conflict will not be quarantined, so they are not obliged to provide the border service with information about the address of quarantine and contact phone number. They also must not show a negative test for coronavirus when crossing the border.
