A quilt can be created to suit almost any interior style. It all depends on what fabrics and colors you prefer for the top, front layer.

Most often, quilts / blankets are created from materials that are easy to work with: chintz, cotton, coarse calico, flax. These fabrics are distinguished by colorful patterns, density, ease of maintenance. This makes quilts a popular element in children’s rooms. The most popular manufacturing technique is patchwork or patchwork. In addition to fabric of several colors, you will need: – sheet synthetic winterizer; – fabric for the wrong side; – scissors; – threads; – a sewing machine.

Start making a blanket with a sketch and sizing of the future product. A sketch is necessary for the correct connection of the patches. Next, cut out a square / rectangle / triangle from cardboard, equal in size to one part. When transferring a part to fabric, be sure to make allowances of 1–1,5 cm for subsequent sewing.

Cut out all the pieces from the fabric and sew one by one according to the sketch. Sew all the patches to form a single piece of fabric. The top layer of the quilt is ready.

Prepare the lining. It should be 2-3 cm more around the entire perimeter than the top layer. Iron the lining and patchwork and place a synthetic winterizer between them. Sweep all three layers of the comforter along four sides. The blank for the future stitch is ready.

There are two ways to make a quilt stitch: on a typewriter using an embroidery foot and a thick needle, or by hand. In the first case, the upper thread is taken white or colored (corresponding to the main color direction), and the lower thread is taken to match the lining material. If you are sewing by hand, use a short needle, hoop and thimble.

The quilt does not need to be sewn using the patchwork technique. The stitch can be done on a plain canvas using a variety of patterned stitches. However, such a finish requires a high professional level and good technology.

A stitch made with a sewing machine will be smooth and beautiful. The stitches will be the same size, giving the garment an effective and neat look. Start work from the center of the blanket to one side, then to the other. This method will maintain the correct tension of the fabrics and the stitch will turn out to be even. Please note: when patchworking, the stitching must be carried out between the patches.

Use decorative stitches if desired and possible. They will make the product more interesting and original. When finished stitching, sew over the edges of the blanket. Fold over the protruding purl to the right side and sew gently. For decoration, you can use braid or satin ribbons.
