Word is without a doubt a very powerful and intuitive application. However, some of its parameters are not immediately clear. For example, if you change the font in the current document, then this will not affect in any way what font will be used each time a new document is created.
Changing the default font in Word is not an obvious task, but it can be easily solved. We will show you an easy way to do this.
Open a previously created document or enter some text into a new document. Select a piece of text and on the tab Home (Home) click the button to open a dialog box with an extended list of options in the lower right corner of the group Font (Font).
The list Font (Font) select the font you want to use as default and click the button By default (Set As Default).
A dialog box will appear asking if you want to change the default font for the current document only or for all documents based on the “Normal” template. Choose an option All documents based on the Normal template (All documents based on the Normal.dotm template). Click OK.
Note: The new default font is stored in the template for later use. Documents that have already been created based on this template will not be changed when they are opened.
If the current document is based on a custom custom template, then the default font will be stored in that template instead of the “Normal” template. The easiest way to change the default font in the Normal template is to create a new blank document and follow the steps in this article.
