How to save in Excel 97-2003 format

If you save the Excel files as 97 – 2003 (.xls instead of the new .xlsx format), users who do not have Excel 2007 or Excel 2010 installed on their computer will be able to open these files in previous versions of the program.

1. Launch Excel.
2. Click the tab Fillet (File) and click Save As (Save as).
3. Select from drop down list Excel 97-2003 Workbook (Excel Book 97-2003).
4. Press Save (Save).

You can save Excel files in 97-2003 format automatically. To do this, follow the next step.

5. On the Advanced tab Fillet (File), click Options (Settings), click Save (Save) and select from the drop down list Excel 97-2003 Workbook (Excel Book 97-2003).
6. Press ОК.

Note: Excel will definitely warn you if certain functions are not supported by the format. 97 – 2003. So you can save the file in the new format anyway . Xlsx.
