How to save barley from salting?
Reading time – 3 minutes.
Pearl barley porridge is a delicious and nutritious side dish, it is only important to be able to cook it. What to do if a lot of salt was accidentally added to the porridge? After all, barley cannot just be boiled again – it needs to be soaked for a long time before cooking.
- The easiest and most immediate way is to rinse the cereals well so that the excess salt is gone with the water.
- A long, but definitely working way is to boil about the same amount of cereal without salt and mix well, getting a ready-made porridge of normal taste. The surplus can always be frozen – then next time you don’t have to waste time soaking the barley.
- Another option is to fry the finished barley in oil with canned peas and corn. The result is an unusual, but very tasty side dish.
- You can also mix porridge with meat without salt. You can choose a sweet version of the dish by adding raisins and pieces of dried apricots to the barley.
- If the taste of porridge was too salty at the end of cooking, then you will have to make the dish more complex. One of the options is to stew the barley with other products. Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, eggplants and bell peppers absorb excess salt well and go well with pearl barley. You can use just one vegetable or whatever is at hand.
