Easter and the coronavirus pandemic

This year’s Easter is celebrated on April 3-5. This is the second time we spend this holiday during the nationwide lockdown. According to Dr. hab. Peter of Rome, it is not enough only the restrictions introduced by the government to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. We also need far-reaching discipline and caution in all of us.

– We should approach Easter in the same way as we did with last year’s Christmas. Why? Because meetings with a larger family circle are the perfect time for the virus to gain strength – says Dr. Rzymski, biologist from the Medical University of Poznań.

  1. Dr hab. Peter of Rome: The cost of a nationwide lockdown will be terrible

– We must remember: there is a health crisis. We must approach Christmas wisely – the scientist appeals.

Easter during COVID-19. Let’s not put our loved ones at risk

As Dr. Piotr Rzymski points out, the experience of Christmas shows that not everyone took seriously the signals that may indicate a possible coronavirus infection. Now is the time to approach it more responsibly.

  1. Dr hab. Dzieiątkowski: we will probably deal with a sinusoid of infections

– If we know that in the days preceding Christmas we had contact with an infected person, let us not underestimate it, let us not conceal it. Better to stay home. If we feel unclear, do not assume that it is a common cold. I know such situations from last year’s Christmas. One person ignored mild symptoms, as a result, half of the household contracted the coronavirus, and the oldest was hospitalized. Remorse and mutual grievances appeared. Remember that it is not possible to clearly distinguish COVID-19 from other respiratory diseases based on symptoms. Worse, we can spread the virus even when we are asymptomatic. Therefore, it is best to assume the worst and thus not put your loved ones at risk. It is an expression of concern for them and I think it will meet with understanding – says the scientist.

– Easter plays an important role in Polish tradition. I am aware of this, but it is not about giving them up forever. The current crisis will not last forever, we will win with the pandemic. We have tools for this in the form of vaccines, we only lack the production and processing capacity to quickly vaccinate a large percentage of the population. But it will improve. We have a light in the tunnel to which we are systematically heading. A little more patience, let’s hold on. Next year will be much better than this one, says Dr. Piotr Rzymski.
