How to rinse a kitten’s eyes: what solutions to use and how to carry out the procedure

If the kitten’s eyes are inflamed, then it is necessary to consult a veterinarian. After examination, he will be able to name the exact cause of the inflammation.

Basically, the following factors can be the culprits of the disease:

• the consequences of trauma;
• foreign object (speck, blade of grass, front sight, etc.);
• conjunctivitis;
• viral infections (mycoplasmosis, rhinotracheitis, chlamydia, etc.);
• allergy;
• parasites;
• twist of the century.

Once you know the exact cause of the inflammation, you can begin the treatment prescribed by your doctor. As a sanitary procedure, the veterinarian will prescribe an eye wash for the kitten to destroy the pathogenic microflora and eliminate discomfort.

For washing, you can use several options: warm water, boric acid solution, saline, strongly brewed tea. These fluids are used for non-infectious eye inflammation in a kitten.

Boric acid or saline must be purchased at a pharmacy. 2 tsp boric acid must be dissolved and mixed thoroughly in half a glass of warm water. The saline solution can be used as sold. Tea should be brewed without sugar, flavoring and aromatic additives.

If there is an infectious component of the inflammation, the veterinarian may prescribe an eye wash with furacilin, chlorhexidine, or some kind of antibiotic. All of these drugs are sold at the pharmacy.

The flushing procedure is quite responsible. So take this manipulation very seriously. Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water (also wash after the procedure). Prepare processing solution. Cut the bandage and fold it into small pads 4-6 layers thick. Cotton wool and cosmetic discs cannot be used: small villi can remain in the eye, which will further aggravate the situation. A clean pad should be used for each eye.

The kitten must be held firmly so as not to injure him inadvertently. The best option is to manipulate the assistant. Moisten the gauze pad with the prepared solution. Then wipe the kitten’s eye with a movement from the outer edge of the eye to the nose. Each wipe should be done with a new piece of gauze.

The eyewash procedure is painless, but the kitten may be scared. Therefore, after performing the manipulation at home, you need to calm the baby and give him some delicacy.
