Over time, the brushes of the electric motor are erased in the Bosch washing machine, and this causes engine failure. You can send the car in for repair, or you can try to fix the breakdown yourself.
The repair itself takes a little time, it takes more to get the motor out of the CM case.
Causes and symptoms of a problem
Electric brushes are used to transmit voltage to the rotor windings, thereby driving the motor. They are made of soft materials that pass electricity well, but are quickly erased. Although there is a trick here too.
The soft material of the brushes protects the motor armature from damage. The advantage is that replacing brushes is many times cheaper than an anchor.
The service life depends on the frequency of use of the washing machine, as well as compliance with the operating rules.
Symptoms of a malfunction
How to understand that you need to replace the carbon brushes in a Bosch washing machine?
If you have a modern car with a self-diagnosis system, then the error code E02 may appear on the display. However, a malfunction can be guessed by external signs:
- Loss of power. The drum is not picking up the proper speed.
- When the brushes are completely worn out, noise and crackling are heard.
- The washer stops in the middle of the process. Most likely, the motor does not work, the brushes are worn out.
- There is a burning smell.
To replace, choose brushes that exactly fit the model of your CMA. Incorrect selection will damage the motor. Take the old part and show the seller.

Phased work
Prepare your SM for repair: disconnect it from the network and communications by disconnecting the intake hose, drain the water from it. Unscrew the drain filter – it is located behind the hatch, at the bottom of the front panel. Remove the filter and drain the water, after substituting the container.
Now move the car away, giving yourself access to the rear panel. Start removing the engine:
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws around the perimeter of the back cover.
- Remove the panel and set aside.
- The motor is located under the washer tank. To get to it, you need to remove the drive belt. Pull slightly forward while rotating the drum pulley.
- Take a picture of the motor wiring for further connection.
- Disconnect all wires.
- Remove the bolts (usually three to four) that hold the motor in place.
- Pull slightly towards you and remove the motor from the CMA.
Replacing brushes
Many are interested in where the brushes are in the washing machine. They are located on the sides of the motor housing.
The appearance of the engine can indicate the wear of the brushes. It will be covered with graphite dust – exactly the material from which the elements are made.
After you have found the brushes, disconnect the wire terminal. Then click on the contact, dropping it down. Pull on the end of the spring and pull out the part.
To install new elements, place them in the socket by compressing the spring. Now release the contact and connect the wire. It remains to install the motor in place in order to properly grind the brushes of the electric motor.
After replacing, start the washing process by selecting a long mode so that all parts get used. This does not require a drive belt. The launch is carried out in test mode.
