Causes and symptoms of malfunction
How to determine that there is a problem with the drive element in the SMA:
- The washing machine’s self-diagnosis system has displayed an error code on the display.
- When washing, the drum does not rotate, but scrolls by hand.
- During operation, the drum rotates very slowly, extraneous scraping sounds are heard.
What is the danger of such a breakdown? The fact that when broken, the belt could catch and break the wiring or damage the sensors.
You can accurately determine the cause of the problem by removing the wall of the washer and inspecting all the details.
Why is the belt falling off? Here are the most common causes of the problem:
- Problems with the drum pulley. Incorrect loading of laundry, overload and imbalance can lead to malfunction and breakage of the pulley. As a result, the belt jumps off, falls off, which leads to the stop of the CM.
- Wear. Each belt has its own lifespan. But few products work before the end of this period. The design of the washers is a likely cause of wear. Narrow machines have a tight arrangement of parts, which leads to rapid wear.
- Wrong linen. With excessive loading, an imbalance of the drum appears – all the laundry is shifted to one side. When spinning at high speeds, the drum can hit the tank sharply, which causes the drive element to jump off.
- Problems with bearings that are needed for uniform rotation of the drum. If the bearings are not replaced in time, this leads to severe vibration of the pulley. Therefore, the belt can not only fly off, but also break.
- Using the SMA too infrequently causes the belt to break. How does this happen? With rare use, areas of the drive element shrink. The next time they are started, they are frayed, which leads to stretching and breakage.
Choice of replacement
How to install the belt on the washing machine? First you need to purchase a similar product that will suit your SMA.
wedge type
Models with an asynchronous motor use a wedge type. Its cross section is compared with a triangle or a trapezoid. Due to the rigidity of the material, they rarely break. You can determine their number and brand by the designation on the outside.
A feature of the installation of a wedge-like product is a strong tension and a slight deflection in the middle part.
poly wedge type
For the SM collector motor, poly-wedge products are used. Consists of several toothed wedges.
How to tighten the drive belt in this case? The installation is different from the wedge – it does not stretch so much. However, in some models of narrow machines, this multi-ribbed type can be very tight. Therefore, you will need to apply a lot of force to install.
To buy a belt in a specialized store, it is enough to name the make and model of the machine, after which the seller will offer a suitable option.
Do-it-yourself step-by-step work
How to put a flown down one and replace the drive belt in a washing machine is not difficult at all, and the work is done in the same way.
Do the prep first. Disconnect the washing machine from the power supply. Close the water inlet valve. Prepare a container to collect water. After unscrewing the intake hose from the back wall, drain the remaining water into a container. Now you can start disassembly.
To do this, take a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the back cover of the CMA. With the cover aside, inspect the belt, as well as closely spaced parts – wiring and sensors – for damage.
If everything is in order, it’s time to learn how to change the belt. Replacement of wedge and poly-wedge products is carried out in a similar way. For this:
- Pull the product first onto the motor shaft, and then onto the drum pulley.
- In the process, tighten the belt with one hand, scroll the pulley with the other.
Now you know how to insert the belt into the washing machine, so carefully inspect the installation site – it should be clearly located in the groove. It remains to install the back panel in place, fix it with bolts and connect the SM to communications and the network.
Start the machine and check the operation of the new belt.
As you can see, you can change the belt yourself at home. Be careful, because some products are so tight that you have to make a lot of effort to stretch them.
