How to replace the bearing in the LG washing machine – instructions

It is easy to determine the failure of the bearings in the ElGee washing machine – you just need to take a closer look at the technology. If the washing machine began to make noise during washing and knock during the Spin program, especially at high speeds, then the diagnosis is obvious. You will need to replace the drum bearing in your LG washing machine.

Preparation for repair

Replacing the bearing of an LG washing machine with your own hands is a painstaking task that you need to carefully prepare for. The more serious the preparation, the faster and more confident the repair will be.

Tool

The first thing you need to do is collect the necessary tools. So, find or buy the following tools and fixtures:

• small hammer; it is desirable that its striking part be made of bronze or copper;
• WD-40 lubricant or equivalent;
• passages;
• screwdrivers “plus” and “minus”;
• small wrench;
• heads – open-end wrenches of different sizes.
• sealant (auto or station wagon);
• metal hairpin, about 4 cm.

Buying bearings

In order not to make a mistake when buying, you need to know how many bearings are in the LG washing machine. In it, as in other machines, two bearings are installed – large and small. This is the kit you need to buy. These bearings are often sold together with oil seals.

Site preparation

The last step to go through before changing the bearing is site preparation. It’s great if you have a garage or workshop nearby that you can deliver SM to. If not, you can start disassembling at home.

Disconnect the machine from all communications and move it to a spacious room, after covering the floor with rags and film.

How to access the tank

Before you remove the bearing on the LG washing machine, you need to disassemble almost the entire machine, gaining access to the tank and drum. Walls, engine, cuff and other parts block your path. How to quickly remove all this in order to remove the tank and find the bearings?

Step 1: Top cover

• To remove the top panel, unscrew the 2 screws holding the cover to the back of the case.
• Pull the panel towards you.
• Lift up slightly and remove.
• Set the cover aside.

Step 2: Control panel with display or indicators

• Remove the detergent dispenser by pressing the central valve at the bottom of the cuvette.
• In the niche where the receiver was, find the mount.
• A few more bolts are located at the top and right of the control panel. Loosen all fasteners.
• Carefully remove the wires connecting it to the SM parts from the panel. In order not to forget how it was, film the disassembly process on video or mark the wiring. If you are a neat craftsman, you can leave the wires on – in this case, work carefully so as not to break anything.

Step 3 Bottom Panel

• The panel is held by plastic latches – find them and bend them using a slotted screwdriver.
• Remove the panel and set aside.

Step 4. Manhole cuff

Without this, you will not be able to remove the front panel.

• Locate the thin metal wire tie that holds the cuff, pry it off with a screwdriver and remove.
• Pull the cuff out of the groove with your hands without pulling it out completely.
• Disable the blocker sensor.
• Loosen the screws to remove the sensor.

Step 5. Front panel

• The front wall fasteners are located behind the powder receiver, behind the water drain valve and in the corners: upper left and upper right, lower right and behind the display panel.
• Loosen any screws found.
• Remove the front cover.
• Set aside.

Step 6. Releasing the tank from fasteners

Need to remove:

• water intake valve fasteners;
• water drain pipe;
• wiring from a heating element and a temperature sensor;
• wires from the electric motor;
• pump wiring;
• counterweights (large upper and small lower);
• pressure switch pipe;
• fasteners of shock absorbers (dampers).

Important! After going through the entire list and removing all the wires and pipes, you can remove the tank. Ask someone to help you to work more comfortably. Let the partner unhook the springs, and lift the tank yourself and remove it from the body.

Tank disassembly and bearing replacement

Before replacing the bearing, you need to disassemble the tank. Let’s get started:

1. Deal with fasteners. It can be both latches and screws fastening 2 parts of the tank.
2. Dividing the tank into halves, you will see the drum pulley and its mount.
3. Your task is to unscrew the mount. In order not to break the bolts, which in 90% of cases are very tight, use lubricant.

Important! For WD-40 or its equivalent to work, you need to process the bolt and wait at least 10 minutes.

4. After removing the mount, remove the pulley, and tighten the bolt, as it was. This will help you successfully knock out the drum without damaging the shaft.
5. Take the stud prepared earlier and rest it on the screwed bolt. Hit it with a hammer, gradually knocking out the shaft.

Attention! You don’t need to hit the pin hard. Repair costs may increase.

6. After you knock out the shaft and sleeve, inspect them – is everything in order, if there are any damages.

Replacement of oil seals and bearings

To change bearings, follow our recommendations:

• Take the back of the drum and remove the oil seal, which is located in the hole in the center.
• If the oil seal cannot be reached by hand, pry it out with a thin screwdriver.
• You can’t get the bearings with a screwdriver, you need to knock them out.
• Take the pin and, resting it against different edges of the bearing, lightly and evenly strike with a hammer.

Important! Do not knock in one place, otherwise the bearing will get stuck.

After taking out the parts, clean the hole in which they were from traces of oil and rust. Prepare a place for new elements – it should be perfectly clean.

The replacement of the bearing on the LG washing machine has almost come to an end, it remains only to “plant” new parts:

• Drive the bearings into place. Act carefully, without strong and sudden movements.
• Lubricate and install seals.

Now you just need to put everything back together and run a test wash.

Important! When assembling the parts of the tank, coat the seam with sealant for reliability.

Common Mistakes

Many home craftsmen know how to change the bearing, and even undertake to repair direct drive cars. But everyone makes mistakes, the most common of them:

1. Breakage of wires UBL.
2. Damage to the sealing collar (when the rubber band is removed without removing the clamp).
3. Pulley damage (during unsuccessful attempts to remove it from the drum axis).
4. Stripped bolt threads (if removed without heat, lubrication, or sudden movements).
5. Break in the wires of the temperature sensor or heating element.
6. Breakage of the water inlet pipe (if you forget to loosen the clamps).
7. Drum damage due to improper bearing removal.
