To find out if the brushes are worn out, you should pay attention to several factors:

  • The electric motor suddenly lost its power. It may also be due to the stretching of the drive belt.
  • Unusual noise when washing. Although this phenomenon may be due to other reasons, for example: the ingress of a small object into the space between the tank and the drum. Knocking can also occur if the bearings are worn.

Reasons to replace brushes

What parts can wear out due to:

  • due to power surges;
  • due to overloading the drum with linen and its imbalance;

Types of motor brushes in a washing machine

There are three types of brushes:

  • copper-graphite;
  • electro-graphite;
  • carbon-graphite.

This information will help you choose the right analogues for your model of machine.

Let’s look at some important questions:

  1. Where are the brushes in the washing machine.
  2. Is it possible to repair the brushes of the electric motor.
  3. How to change the brushes in a washing machine.

Case disassembly

Before proceeding with disassembly work, the equipment should be de-energized. To get to the motor, you need to remove the back cover of the machine. As a rule, it is held by several fasteners, which can be unscrewed using an ordinary screwdriver.

Then proceed according to such a scheme repeatedly tested by the masters:

  1. Remove the drive belt by pulling it towards you while turning the pulley. If you do everything right, the belt will come off easily. Set the belt aside, at the same time inspecting its condition (it may need to be replaced).
  2. Disconnect the wiring from the engine to get it. To remove the wires easily, pull the connector towards you.
  3. Typically, the motor is mounted inside the housing with screws or bolts. Unscrew them to get the part.

Motor brush replacement

Replacing the washing machine motor brush should begin with the selection of new parts. To avoid an accidental mistake, you must clearly know the type and type of motor of your washing machine. To find out this information, look for a label with markings on the motor itself.

You can find new brushes in these places:

  • In specialized stores selling spare parts.
  • In service centers specializing in the maintenance of washing machines.
  • In online stores.

Let’s figure out how to properly put the brushes:

  1. Unscrew the old brushes and inspect them. If your washing machine fails precisely because of them, then you will notice the extreme deterioration of these elements.
  2. Also inspect the manifold by scrolling it with your fingers. If you find only modest scratches, you can easily get rid of them using ordinary sandpaper.
  3. Carefully insert the brushes in place of the old ones, fix them using screws and a screwdriver.
  4. Then turn the engine over by hand. This will give you an idea of how tight the brushes are on the motor. When turning, slight clicks should be heard.

If you are convinced that all the work has been carried out correctly, you can start reassembling your SM.
