We present to your attention a useful tip that will help save time – the fastest way to replace formulas in Excel with their values. This method works in Excel 2013, 2010 – 2003.
There can be several reasons for replacing formulas with their values:
- To quickly paste values into another workbook or sheet without wasting time on copy and paste special.
- To keep calculation formulas secret when sending a workbook to another person (for example, your retail prices with a markup on the wholesale price).
- To protect the result from being changed when the values in related cells are changed.
- Save function result RAND (SLCHIS).
- If the workbook contains many complex formulas that make the recalculation very slow. At the same time, you cannot switch the recalculation of the Excel workbook to manual mode.
Convert formulas to values using keyboard shortcuts in Excel
Let’s say you have a formula for extracting domain names from URLs. You want to replace its results with values.
Follow these simple steps:
- Select all cells with formulas you want to convert.
- Press Ctrl + C or Ctrl+Insto copy the formulas and their results to the clipboard.
- Press Shift + F10, and then V (or the letter Z – in Excel) to paste only the values back into the same Excel cells.
Shift+F10 + V (Z) is the fastest way to use the command in Excel Paste special (Special Paste) > Values only (Values).
Ready! Pretty fast way, right?
