How to remove wax stains from clothes. Video
Burning candles can add a touch of romance and celebration even to the most ordinary dinner. But there is always a risk that the melted wax will get on the clothes or on the tablecloth. However, it is quite easy to get rid of such contamination.
Wax stain: how to clean clothes
Spots of wax and paraffin are not among the contaminants that must be removed immediately, hot on the trail. You have to wait at least 10-15 minutes – during this time the wax on the fabric will cool and harden, and you can get rid of the stain without risking smudging it. Only then can you start cleaning the matter.
First step: peeling off the wax
As a rule, a drop of wax that has fallen on clothing is not completely absorbed into the fabric: a thin translucent film remains on top of the fabric. It must be removed mechanically: scrape off or carefully cut with a knife. The wax trail easily crumbles and leaves the fabric.
If you drip in thin silk trousers or a chiffon blouse and are afraid of damaging delicate fabric, it is enough to wrinkle the dirty area and shake off the crumbled wax with a clothes brush
Stage two: reduce the stain
After that, place a white paper towel, folded in several layers, or a paper towel under the soiled area. Ordinary stationery can also be used, but its absorbency is slightly lower.
Cover the stain with a thin cotton cloth (you can use a handkerchief for this purpose) and iron it several times. The high temperature will melt the wax and absorb it into the paper.
Wax and paraffin melt at rather low temperatures (about 60-80 degrees), therefore, if you are afraid of burning delicate fabrics while removing stains, you can put the iron on minimum heat
Change the backing paper and iron the fabric again: the first time, all the wax may not melt, especially if you dripped clothes with a colored, for example, black or red candle. If, after several passes with the iron, an oil trace remains on the napkin, then the procedure must be repeated again.
If the thing that has gotten a drop of wax cannot be ironed, you can remove the stain with turpentine or alcohol. Place a light cotton cloth, folded several times under the stain, and use a cloth or gauze swab to clean the item, moving from the edges of the dirt to the center.
After removing a paraffin or wax stain, a greasy mark usually remains on the fabric. It is easy to wash in the normal machine wash. If the garment can only be washed by hand, scrub the stain with soap, then wash as usual.
