Carpets are a feeling of home, comfort, warmth. But nothing disturbs the idyll like the smell of urine: either the child missed the pot, the cat was marking the territory, or the dog did not wait for the owner to walk (or one of the three listed above left a wet mark out of spite). Getting rid of the urine smell from the carpet becomes a top priority.

Before you start fighting a puddle, you need to assess the situation:

  • colored and light-colored carpets may not withstand exposure to chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar or potassium permanganate;
  • the use of folk remedies is effective, but it can take several hours;
  • it is better to blot the puddle right away (with a dry cloth or paper towel);
  • if time is a little lost, a glass of water is poured onto the stain (you can use vinegar) and wipe;
  • when choosing chemicals, you need to study the label for the possible reaction of children and animals (so that they are not toxic).

How to get rid of the smell of cat urine from your carpet can be found in an arsenal of home remedies. If you get tired of taking out an unpleasant aroma for hours, the purchase of odor neutralizers (for example, “Odorgon”, you can ask something at the pet store) will help. In addition, the price will correspond to the quality.

The soiled carpet is treated with a solution of laundry soap (top and inside), covered with salt or soda for a couple of hours, and then vacuumed (knocked out the carpet). Step-by-step cleaning is also used.

  1. Craftsmen advise to soak the stain with a solution of vinegar (dilute 1 to 3 with 9% vinegar with water), after drying, treat this place with soda. The procedure is completed by applying a special mixture from a spray bottle – dilute water and hydrogen peroxide 2 to 1 with the addition of 5 ml of dishwashing detergent.
  2. You can stir 1 to 1 hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, or a solution of potassium permanganate and water, and then apply to the carpet.
  3. For a liter of water, take 2 tablespoons of vinegar and dab the stain with the “mixture”, then put a white cloth on it and iron it with a hot iron (especially important for children’s “troubles”).
  4. Before removing the smell of dog urine from the carpet, they also examine the contents of the master’s closet for citric acid, soda, and salt. You can fill the “fragrant” place with baking soda and leave to walk your pet, and on your return vacuum the problem area.

You can add a few drops of essential oil to the vinegar, but an unfortunate combination of odors cannot be ruled out. The smell of urine is also overpowered by vodka. But to wipe the carpet with it, not everyone will raise a hand.

After cleaning the coating, you need to analyze why this is happening and take action – take a “man’s friend” on time, wash the cat litter more thoroughly, or clean the carpet until better times while teaching your baby to the potty.
