How to remove the heating element from the washing machine

TEN – a part of a washing machine that heats water for washing. It is usually located at the bottom of the tank, and its key “feature” is premature and frequent failure.

Not a single high-quality washing machine, even Bosch or General Electric, is protected from burnout of the heater. To replace a damaged element, you should know how to remove the heater from the washing machine. We will cover this in detail in our instructions.

Causes of heater failure

If you are sure that the water does not heat up during washing (things are not washed, the hatch is cold in the high-temperature mode), then it is the heating element that is to blame for the failure. Although the failure of the temperature sensor is not ruled out.

Before you start repairs and remove the heater and thermostat (which is usually built into the heating element), you should definitely make sure that it is broken. The reasons for the failure can be such factors:

  • Long service life, frequent use of high temperature conditions.
  • The formation of scale on the element due to hard water, which leads to the burnout of the part.
  • Failure of the temperature sensor leads to the fact that the heating element does not heat (in this case, it is enough to change the sensor).
  • Breakage of the programmer or electronic board blocking heating.

As you can see, factory defects and violation of operating conditions are rare reasons for the failure of an element. More it depends on the quality of the water used for washing.

If you want to protect yourself from such problems in the future, use special tools that block the sedimentation of plaque on the tubular element.

How to get a heating element from washing machines of different brands

To pull the heating element out of the washer, first of all you need to figure out which side it is located in your CMA brand. The most common position is behind the washing machine, typical for brands such as LG, Indesit and Ariston, Ardo, Zanussi, Kandy and Atlant.

If you are the owner of a washing machine of a brand such as Bosch, Samsung or Siemens, then you can only remove the heating element from the front. Consider the procedure for both cases.

If the heater is located behind

Proceed like this:

  • Turn off the power to the machine, drain the remaining water using the drain filter.
  • Unscrew the bolts securing the rear panel of the CMA housing.
  • Under the drum you will see the shank of the heating tube.
  • Memorize or take a picture of the contacts so as not to reverse the polarity when installing a new part.
  • Disconnect wiring.
  • Locate the fixing bolt and unscrew it (located in the center of the shank).
  • Slightly push the fasteners inward, grab the heating element and pull it towards you. If the part does not reach, use a thin screwdriver to pry the seal.

Important! If you are not sure of a XNUMX% breakdown of the heating element, pull carefully so as not to break off the contacts, in case the part is serviceable and does not require replacement.

  • Clean the hole in which the part was from debris and scale residues.
  • Install a new heating element, remembering to connect the sensor to it.
  • Tighten the fasteners.
  • Connect the contacts, observing the polarity.
  • To make sure that the new element is working and all its connections are tight, test the machine by running the wash in turn at different temperatures.
  • Replace the back cover, the job is over.

If you need to get the heating element in front

The work goes as follows:

  • Unplug the machine.
  • Unscrew the top cover fasteners located on the back of the SM and remove the front cover by pulling it towards you and up.
  • Take out the detergent drawer. Self-tapping screws are hidden behind it, fixing the control panel, which also needs to be removed.
  • Remove the bezel that hides the debris filter. Usually the panel is held by ordinary plastic latches.
  • Using a thin screwdriver, pick up the seal collar on the machine door and, having removed the mount, wrap the cuff into the drum.
  • In order not to accidentally break the wires of the door lock, disconnect the wiring or completely dismantle the UBL.
  • Unscrew the bolts holding the front wall, and, moving it slightly forward, remove it.
  • The shank of the heating element will be visible under the tank. Take a photo of your contacts.
  • Loosen the nut and push the bolt inward.
  • Take the heating element out of the groove.

  • Remove debris and scale from the tank before installing a new part.

How to remove the heating element from the washing machine

  • Installation of the element and assembly of the SMA is carried out in the reverse order.
  • Take the time to test the machine to make sure the repair operation was successful.
