How to remove tartar: clean your teeth carefully
Tartar is a hardened plaque. The reason for its appearance is inadequate oral hygiene. Deposits can lead to bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. To avoid these problems, it is necessary to remove the tartar.
Removal of calculus at the dentist
Professional teeth cleaning with ultrasound is a painless procedure that quickly and efficiently removes dental deposits. It is produced by a special device called a scaler. The scaler also provides a stream of water, which flushes out the destroyed stone and plaque residues from the mouth.
Often a stone goes under the gum, loosening the tooth. With the help of a scaler, the dentist can easily deal with subgingival deposits. At the same time, the patient practically does not feel anything.
Slight painful sensations may occur with increased sensitivity of the teeth
In this case, it is worth discussing the issue of pain relief with the dentist.
How much does it cost to remove tartar with ultrasound? The price depends on whether both jaws will be processed or just a few teeth. The doctor will be able to name a specific figure after an in-person consultation and examination of the state of the oral cavity.
How to remove tartar at home
Here’s how to get rid of hardened plaque without going to your dentist:
Apply a small amount of regular baking soda to your wet toothbrush. Thoroughly brush your teeth with it, paying special attention to those places where most of the stone has accumulated.
Apply a cotton swab moistened with 3% hydrogen peroxide to your teeth for a couple of minutes. Then brush your teeth with a stiff brush.
Brush your teeth with a mixture of half a teaspoon of baking soda, a pinch of table salt and a few drops of lemon juice. This tool not only copes with plaque, but also slightly whitens the enamel.
Brew a tablespoon of dry celandine in a glass of boiling water, infuse the broth for 30 minutes, and then strain through cheesecloth. Rinse your mouth thoroughly every evening.
To soften the stone for its subsequent trouble-free removal, it is recommended to dissolve a spoonful of honey in 200 ml of warm water and rinse your mouth with this solution in the morning and in the evening.
After removing tartar, you must continue to carefully monitor oral hygiene: brush your teeth twice a day, rinse your mouth after eating, use dental floss. Then the stone will form much more slowly.
– To prevent tartar, it is important to properly care for the oral cavity. The type of toothbrush for each patient is prescribed by the dentist, based on the condition of the teeth and gums. But there are general principles for choosing a brush:
ordinary (manual) brushes with soft bristles are suitable for children and people with increased sensitivity of enamel or gum disease;
medium bristle brushes recommended from the age of 12 years with a healthy state of the soft tissues of the oral cavity;
electric toothbrushes suitable for everyone, since they effectively deal with plaque and do not injure the enamel;
ultrasonic brushes – the most progressive solution for cleaning teeth: these devices remove plaque, destroy tartar and have a beneficial effect on the gums, reducing inflammation in them. However, these brushes are not suitable for those who have crowns or veneers – the ultrasonic wave can weaken the fixation of such structures.
People with healthy teeth that are not prone to calculus can opt for an ordinary hygienic brush. The length of its working part should correspond approximately to the length of 2-3 teeth. It should be noted that there is no medical evidence that the height and direction of the bristles or the presence of rubber inserts affect cleaning performance. For smokers and fans of coffee and tea, an ordinary brush may not be enough – to remove stained plaque, it is better to choose electric models, since it has been proven that they are twice as effective as ordinary ones.
