Down jackets are light, practical and warm, in winter they are worn by both adults and children. These are quilted jackets or coats with a waterproof top, inside which there is natural fluff or synthetic winterizer. The tops of down jackets and their inner material are quite capricious and do not like frequent washing, so it is recommended to take such things to dry cleaning. But you can try to clean the down jacket from stains yourself.
Before you send a down jacket for storage after the winter season, it must be cleaned or washed. At home, you cannot use household detergents to wash down jackets, since they do not completely dissolve in water. Detergent microparticles can clog the micropores of the membrane fabric from which some down jackets are sewn, and it will not be able to provide good air exchange. You should use a liquid detergent.
When washing by hand or in a washing machine, the water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. If you want to hand wash your down jacket, hang it on a hanger on a sturdy bar in the bathroom. Dilute the detergent, apply it to a sponge or clothing brush, and wipe off any soiled areas of clothing. Turn inside out and repeat the procedure. Then pour over the down jacket from the inside and outside from the hose, let the water drain and hang the hanger with the down jacket in a shady place in a draft. When the down jacket is dry, put it in a plastic bag and store it.
If you wash in a typewriter, set the delicate cycle. Experienced housewives advise putting a few ping-pong balls into the washing machine along with the down jacket, this will help to wash the thing more efficiently.
