Gouache is used both in children’s art and in the work of professional artists. While enthusiastically drawing another picture, you can accidentally drop a few drops of paint on yourself. This does not mean at all that the clothes will have to be thrown away. It is enough to read our tips than to remove the gouache.

In order to return the clothes to their former whiteness and not damage the fabric, you can use the following methods:

  • Solvent. Remove the contamination with nail polish remover, gasoline, or acetone. To do this, dab some solvent on a cotton pad and gently dab the stain. Try not to rub in the product as this can damage the fibers of the fabric. After that, all that remains is to wash the clothes in the washing machine in the “everyday wash” mode.
  • Stain remover. Today you can buy specialized stain removers and bleaches in any household chemicals store. But their effectiveness is not always high enough. Sometimes it is not possible to completely remove contamination with their help.
  • Toothpaste. Rub a small amount of the paste onto the stain and let sit for 5 minutes. After that, wash your clothes in the usual way. This method allows you to remove even old dirt.

These simple guidelines will help you restore white clothes to their original appearance without much effort.

How to wash gouache from clothes if the fabric is colored?

Colored things need to be handled more carefully. To remove gouache stains, you can use the following products:

  • Glycerol. Wash the stain in clean water without adding detergent. Apply a small amount of glycerin to the affected area and let it sit for 2 hours. Then wash the garment several times in the washing machine using the powder.
  • Alcohol. To remove gouache, ammonia or denatured alcohol is excellent. It is enough just to treat the stain with it, and then wash the thing in the usual way.
  • Laundry soap. This method is best for washing silk items. Just lather the stain and leave it on for a while. After that, all that remains is to wash the clothes in the usual way. Only 72% laundry soap effectively removes stains. Modern white products may not cope with this task.
  • Eucalyptus oil. This method is suitable for removing stubborn stains. Just apply oil to the stained area and then wash in the washing machine.

Remember to soak dirty clothes only in cold water. Otherwise, the paint will roll and be much more difficult to remove.

Using such simple methods, you can quickly and effectively get rid of even old stains of gouache.
