It is rare to find a child who would not like to draw. In a fit of inspiration and diligence, kids are often carried away and, forgetting about sheets of paper, transfer their masterpieces to whatever they have to do. Basically, furniture upholstery and wallpaper suffer from their creativity.

How to remove felt-tip stains

How easy it will be to wipe off the traces of the felt-tip pen on the wallpaper depends not only on what quality they are: ordinary paper, washable, vinyl, natural, etc., but also on which felt-tip pen was used to create the masterpiece. Felt-tip pens are water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based. Before you start scrubbing wallpaper designs, read the type of felt-tip pens on the packaging. It is easiest to remove the marks left by the water-based felt-tip pen.

How to remove a felt-tip pen from wallpaper

Depending on the type of markers, you may need: – 3% hydrogen peroxide; – a piece of cotton wool or cotton swabs; – a special tool for removing marks from markers; – white toothpaste; – alcohol-containing products: cologne, alcohol, denatured alcohol; – vegetable oil; – oxygen stain remover for clothes.

We can immediately say that cheap paper and expensive wallpaper made from natural materials can hardly be wiped off from any type of felt-tip pens. You can try to save paper if they have a white background and the child has used a water-based felt-tip pen for the drawings. You can try to remove traces of it with 3% hydrogen peroxide. In this case, you do not need to scrub the felt-tip pen – carefully apply the peroxide along the lines using an applicator or a cotton swab. It is better not to touch the pattern on the wallpaper – in the places where the peroxide is active, it will simply disappear along with the traces of the felt-tip pen.

Please note that the sooner you start wiping off the marks of the felt-tip pen, the easier it will be to do this before the dye has eaten into the material from which the wallpaper is made.

Washable vinyl wallcoverings will easily tolerate the peroxide or oxygen stain remover you use to clean your clothes. In addition, in stationery stores, in the same place as felt-tip pens, you can immediately buy special products for removing stains from them, which are available in the form of pencils and sprays filled with a special cleaning compound.

Scribbles drawn with an alcohol-based felt-tip pen can be removed with any colorless alcohol-containing composition: rubbing alcohol, cologne. When wiping off stains, change the cotton swabs more often so as not to smudge the coloring pigment. Try to remove the stain with regular toothpaste, but it should be white.

When removing the stain, start rubbing it from the center to the edges so that it does not smudge on the wallpaper.

An oil-based felt-tip pen can be used to rub off vinyl and washable wallpaper with regular vegetable oil. After treatment, wash the stain with a soft sponge dampened with soapy water and dry.
