Any housewife from time to time is faced with the problem of removing traces of glue from various materials and surfaces. The glue is widely used in everyday life or when renovating an apartment. Even if you are extremely careful, the adhesive can still get on the product, ruining its appearance. Removing glue from plastic takes patience and care.

It is best to remove traces of slightly dried glue from plastic that did not have time to harden properly. Of course, the cleaning efficiency will be largely determined by the nature of the adhesive and the strength of its action. Try dampening the area with a clean, rough cloth and warm water. If you are quick, the dried glue will not have time to form a crust, so most of the dirt can be removed in such a simple way.

After treatment with water, wipe the product with a degreasing agent.

The situation is more complicated with very old spots. If glue gets on the plastic parts of an expensive technical device, do not try to remove traces of it mechanically, for example, with the sharp edge of a knife or razor blade. Even if a hard crust of dried glue is removed, deep scratches can appear on the plastic surface, which can permanently ruin the appearance of the product.

Removing old glue stains from plastic

If you find old glue spots on the plastic part, try to determine its type and composition. Moment glue or cyanoacrylate-based superglue should be removed with an acetone-based nail polish remover or natural acetone. Moisten a cotton swab with the chosen product, wipe the glue stain formed on the plastic, and repeat the treatment after 20-30 minutes.

Remove glue containing rubber from plastic with refined aviation gasoline. Plant-based formulations are susceptible to an aqueous solution of denatured alcohol and ammonia, which must be taken in equal proportions. When the composition is infused, generously moisten a cotton cloth with it and wipe the plastic surface with pressure several times.

Universal means for removing glue from plastic

If you are at a loss to determine the type of glue that has traces of it on the plastic, use one of the versatile products that effectively remove adhesives from any surface. These include kerosene and gasoline. Treat contaminated material with a sponge or cotton swab soaked in such liquid.

Wipe the stain until all traces of glue are removed.

If you are traveling by car, you can also try to treat glue marks on the plastic parts of the car with a glass cleaner. Put the product in a bottle with a spray device, spray the plastic contaminated with glue with the cleaner, and then wipe thoroughly with a dry and clean rag. In this way, you can remove stains that have had time to dry, but have not yet become too old.
