How to remove creases on linoleum, video
Linoleum is deservedly considered one of the most practical and durable types of flooring. However, it has an important drawback: improper transportation, poor-quality installation or non-observance of operating rules lead to the appearance of linoleum creases, which are not easy to remove. It is possible to cope with the problem if you follow the proven advice of professionals.
How to remove creases on linoleum
There are three main ways to get rid of defects:
- ironing.
Dampen a thick cloth and lay on the damaged area of the cover. Turn on the iron at medium power, preferably set to steam mode. Smooth over the dent or crease. Be careful not to damage the linoleum, it is advisable to roll the rag in several layers. To completely eliminate the defect, you will need 20-30 minutes of work.
- drying with a hairdryer.
Lightly dampen the deformed area with water and blow warm air from a hair dryer. In order not to damage the coating, set not the maximum power on the appliance, but the medium one. The process of eliminating the crease will take at least an hour.
- non-thermal method.
This method is considered the most gentle, because it does not imply thermal effects on the finishing material. If there is a dent on the floor, pierce it exactly in the center with a thin needle. Over time, air will enter the formed hole and the deformed place will rise. To remove the resulting bump, place a flat object on this area, such as a board, with a weight on top.
All of these methods require patience. Take your time: an iron or hairdryer turned on at full power can burn the material.
In stores, linoleum is stored rolled up. If you bring home the purchased material and immediately start laying, the result will be far from ideal: folds or creases will form on the floor.
To avoid an unfortunate outcome, leave the linoleum to lie down at room temperature. Unwind the roll completely and press down on the largest folds with a load.
Leave the material in this state for 2-3 days, and then start finishing.
If you don’t have the time, try another method. Spread the linoleum on the floor, take a wooden plank, wrap it in fabric and, pressing hard, go over the entire material. Leave the plank in the middle of the cover for 30 minutes, pressing down with a weight. Slide it towards the edges every 20-30 minutes. For leveling, 5-6 hours are enough.
