Even with careful wear, various contaminants can periodically appear on wool products. How to remove them from things quickly and without the risk of damaging the material? Our editors have selected the most effective ways.
General recommendations
There are many stain removers on the market that can easily cope with most stains on fabrics. If you choose the right one, it will gently and effectively remove stains from woolen clothes. An important rule for working with such compositions is to pre-test them on the wrong side of the material.
If there is no stain remover at hand, you can try one of the folk remedies. But, regardless of the chosen one, you must first prepare the product. What is required for this:
Gently brush the wool with a special brush for clothes to remove dust from the surface of the product.
Wet the brush and walk over the surface of the material with wet bristles.
Turn the thing inside out and place a cloth or paper napkin under it.
Now you can start the cleaning process. The active composition should be applied strictly from the edges of the stain to the center, so as not to smear the mark even more.
Removing various types of stains
Mud
Normal dirt and stubborn dust can be easily removed from any woolen garment. It is necessary to prepare a soap solution in a water bath using laundry soap and water. Wash the contaminated part of woolen clothing in it, then rinse thoroughly in cool water. Gently wring out, dip in vinegar solution for 5 minutes. Then rinse again in clean cool water.
Fat/fish oil
If the greasy stain is fresh, you can use a simple proven method – starch and gasoline. Mix potato starch with refined gasoline to a thick mixture. Place a paper or cloth napkin under the greasy stain and treat the desired area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbclothes with the resulting composition (movements must be careful). After washing in soapy water and rinsing thoroughly in clean cool water.
If a stain of grease has dried on the coat, you should try talcum powder or tooth powder. It is enough to sprinkle the contaminated area with the selected composition and leave for 3-4 hours. Then gently shake off its remnants from the wool and wash the product in a special mode.
With fish oil, things are a little different. In this case, table vinegar will do better. In 1 st. cool water dilute 1 tbsp. a spoonful of vinegar. Generously moisten a cotton swab in the resulting composition and thoroughly blot the fish oil stain: it should become less noticeable. After that, you can send the thing to the laundry.
Chocolate
To remove chocolate stains, a concentrated saline solution is perfect. Salt is taken at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon for 1 tbsp. warm water. The contaminated part of the woolen product must be carefully washed, if necessary, left for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Tea coffee
Method number 1. Glycerin. Even an old coffee or tea stain can be removed from wool with pure glycerin. First, the composition should be heated to body temperature. Then, using a cotton swab (for small stains) or a cotton pad (for more “large-scale” pollution), apply warm glycerin in a dense layer. Leave for 10-15 minutes. Then wash with soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly.
Method number 2. Alcohol + vinegar. Mix both components in equal proportions. Apply the resulting composition with a soft cloth or cotton pad, wipe thoroughly (do not press on the fabric). Then walk over the cleaned area with a clean, dry cloth.
Blood
This is a special type of dirt that cannot be treated with hot water: this will lead to a deeper penetration of blood into the structure of the wool. The first step is to rinse the stain under running cold water. Then treat the contaminated area with one of the following products.
Method No. 1. Vinegar. Using a cotton swab soaked in table vinegar, blot the blood-contaminated area of a woolen product. Rinse the treated wool thoroughly with running cold water.
Method No. 2. Soap solution. Grate laundry soap on a fine grater and add it to warm water (at the rate of 1/4 bar of soap per 1 tbsp of water). Put in a water bath, keep until the soap is completely dissolved. Allow the finished composition to cool. In a warm mixture, gently wash the dirty area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbthe product. If the stain is large, change the soap solution as needed. The last step is to rinse the wool in clean cold water with a little vinegar added.
Method No. 3. Ammonia, borax. This option is for old blood stains. Dissolve 1 tsp. ammonia in 1 tbsp. cold water. Gently wipe the old trace of blood with the resulting composition. Then treat it with a solution of borax, diluted in the same proportion with water as ammonia.
Traces of sweat
A strong saline solution is a simple effective remedy. Prepare a strong solution using ordinary tap water and table salt. Apply with a cotton swab to the contaminated area or immerse it in this solution. Leave for 15 minutes. Then wash in the washing machine using a special mode.
Pomade
To remove lipstick marks from wool, you will need a more powerful tool than vinegar or soap.
Method No. 1. Turpentine. Soak a cotton swab or cotton swab in turpentine and gently dab the contaminated area. Be sure to remove the compound using a mild soapy solution. Then rinse thoroughly in cool water. If the stain is gone completely, you can not wash the product.
Method No. 2. Medical alcohol. Thoroughly soak a white cloth in alcohol and delicately walk over the dirty area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbthe wool. If necessary, repeat the procedure several times. Then send the product to the laundry.
Alcohol
If the stain is fresh, first blot it thoroughly with a clean, natural cloth or paper towel to remove as much excess moisture as possible. Combine in equal proportions medical alcohol or vodka and ordinary water (warm). Apply the resulting composition with a soft sponge. Repeat the procedure several times. Then you can send the wool product to the washing machine.
Berries
With fresh traces of berry stains, table salt will do just fine. Mix a certain amount of salt (based on the size of the stain) with a small amount of water: you should get a thick slurry. Apply it in a dense layer on the contamination and leave to interact with the berry pigment for 30-40 minutes (the mixture should dry out). Then remove the remaining salt from the material, and stretch the wool in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly in clean cold water.
Grass
Traces of grass can sometimes be difficult to remove from the fabric. Since wool is a delicate material, you can use a simple tool – soapy water. Apply it on the soiled part of the product and leave for half an hour or gently wipe. As an alternative, you can try removing the grass mark with alcohol: moisten a cloth with alcohol and treat the stain. At the end of the procedure, send the item to the washing machine.
Ink
To remove ink stains, they are first treated with a solution of white spirit (gasoline solvent), then gently wiped with table vinegar or medical alcohol.
Oil paint
You can remove an unpleasant stain with ordinary sunflower oil. To do this, generously moisten a cotton swab or cotton swab in vegetable oil and process the part of the material contaminated with paint. Then send the product to the laundry. If the stain has had time to dry, first you should gently soak it with turpentine. Then follow the steps above.
