What could be causing stomatitis? How to relieve the troublesome symptoms associated with it? Are there any effective lozenges for stomatitis? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
How can stomatitis be relieved?
Good day. I am writing to you with a serious request. I’ve been struggling with inflammation of the mouth. It is red and swollen. For this reason I have problems swallowing food and saliva. I have the impression that the accompanying itching and pain have intensified a bit. I don’t know what exactly could have caused it.
I recently attended a corporate party where I was treated to some incredibly spicy food that I had never tasted before. I liked them and I exaggerated a bit with their consumption – could it be a cause of infection? Now I am so sore that I do not even have the strength to leave my apartment and see a doctor. I would like to ask for ways to relieve stomatitis with home remedies.
Are there also any lozenges for stomatitis that I could buy without a prescription? Unfortunately, I smoke cigarettes and despite the pain I have a terrible craving for nicotine, so I would like to ask for information if the smoke can worsen the condition of the mouth even more? I would appreciate any dietary advice on what ingredients and minerals will alleviate the inflammation. Thank you even for the short but factual answer.
Your doctor will advise you on how to relieve stomatitis
Sir, it’s hard to say anything without a physical examination. Before making a diagnosis, each doctor must examine the patient personally. The causes of stomatitis there may be many. Perhaps in your case it is not inflammation but irritation due to the consumption of spicy food. However, if you suspect an infectious agent, it should be taken into account at the very beginning viral infection.
Viruses are the most common infectious agent in pharyngitis and stomatitis. Symptoms include redness and swelling of the palatopharyngeal arches, the back of the throat and the tonsils, soreness, and a feeling of dryness and burning when swallowing. If there are additional symptoms such as fever up to 38 degrees Celsius, muscle pain and general weakness, it is even more likely that a virus is an infectious agent.
Smoking it may increase pain, if only because tobacco smoke additionally dries the oral mucosa. Please note that feeling weak is not an excuse to see your doctor. In the case of stomatitis, it is always necessary to exclude streptococcal angina, which, if left untreated, may lead to serious consequences. For angina, treatment with antibiotics for at least 10 days.
If you are interested in home treatment methods, it is worth using sage or hydrogen peroxide rinses. I would personally recommend buying over-the-counter medications that have antiseptic and anesthetic / analgesic properties. There are many such products on the market, the choice is yours. Of course, you should remember about a proper diet, please give up spicy dishes and citrus, and drink plenty of fluids. As I mentioned before, you should see a doctor, especially if the treatment methods used so far will not be sufficient.
