How to relieve a fracture and a sprain?
Sprains and strains
Stretching a ligament is called a “sprain”. A “strain” is defined as the stretching of a muscle or tendon. |
How to recognize a sprain or a strain?
- Localized pain (increase during movement);
- Swelling;
- Discoloration at the site of the injury;
- Difficult or impossible movement.
What should be done ? (RIGE)
- Repos (of the injured part);
- Immobilization (do not move the injured part and try to immobilize it);
- Glace (apply ice to the wound for 15 minutes every hour);
- Éelevation (elevate the injured limb);
- Advise the victim to see a doctor to check for fractures.
Important : the application of the ice should not be done directly on the wound. |

- Call for help.
