What are the symptoms of a knocked finger? How do you know when this injury has occurred? How to distinguish a broken finger from a broken finger? The questions are answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

How do you know when you have knocked out your finger?

Hello. I am 27 years old and I do not practice competitive sports, from time to time I go to the gym, where amateur volleyball games are organized. Four days ago, during the match, I unfortunately hit the ball with my right hand, my thumb bent, for a moment I thought that I had broken fingerbecause it turned blue, I couldn’t move it for a long time. After half an hour my finger was swollen, but I started to move it.

Could it be a bone fracture or more is it stamped finger? I also do not know what to use to make the swelling go away, I only took painkillers and I only do ice packs, I haven’t been to the pharmacy, but there are probably specialized measures to minimize the swelling.

I am also wondering if it is a knocked out finger, should I see a doctor, and what specialist? It’s my right hand, so a swollen thumb makes it difficult for me to function, how to accurately recognize a knocked out finger? Apart from pain and swelling, I have no other symptoms, the color of my thumb is now natural, I can move it a little, the nail will probably not come off, I do not have a fever. Please reply.

Your doctor will give you information on how to recognize a knocked out finger

Dear madam, unfortunately I am not able to say via the internet whether the bone has been damaged or the so-called finger knocked out. Statement stamped finger is the colloquial term for dislocation of phalanges and cancer or feet. Down joint dislocations occurs when a large force is applied to the joint. Then the articular surfaces slide completely relative to each other. Sometimes it also comes to rupture of the articular capsuleand even skin damage.

In the event of a fracture, the continuity of the bones is broken, most often outside the joint area. In terms of symptoms, they can be very similar for both conditions. Swelling develops at the site of the dislocation or fracture, and the skin may turn blue. Of course it comes to mobility disorders, most often the finger cannot be bent. In the case of more serious injuries, apart from breaking the skin, the blood vessels may also rupture, which results in heavy bleeding.

As for the management, painkillers should be used at the very beginning. It can be ibuprofen, paracetamol, ketoprofen or metamizole. In the case of increasing swelling, it is worth using Altacet, which has an anti-swelling effect. Of course, you should always see a doctor, especially if there are serious symptoms such as sensory disturbances or bleeding.

Distinguishing whether we are dealing with a fracture or dislocation can be problematic even for an experienced doctor, so it is worth taking an X-ray to visualize the bone structures of the fingers. Only having the test result can a certain diagnosis be made. I suggest that you visit your GP first, he or she may then recommend an orthopedic visit.
