How to quickly remove old wallpaper from the walls: the secrets of the master, tips
This is sometimes not an easy matter, but it is necessary: gluing new wallpapers onto old ones can lead to a poor-quality result. Prepare the necessary tools, water and be patient.
How to quickly remove wallpaper: recommendations
For work, you will definitely need two spatulas – narrow and wide. Grind their edges with emery so that they easily separate the paper from the wall. Another important device is the wallpaper tiger. It scratches the surface of the wallpaper without damaging the plaster underneath. A knife and pinion roller may also come in handy.
In order not to do the double work of removing sticky pieces of paper from the floor, protect it in advance – glue the plastic wrap to the baseboard with masking tape. Glue the switches and sockets with it so as not to get them wet.
Use warm or hot water to soak the glue well. It is good if you can use a steamer or a steam mop – they will greatly facilitate and speed up the process.
Removing wallpaper: the secrets of the master
For different types of wallpaper, there are the most rational removal methods, which are based on their properties and composition:
- non-woven wallpaper. They are based on synthetic fibers, they are durable and waterproof. The first thing to do when removing them is to make cuts across the entire surface. Then they are moistened with a conventional spray bottle with water or a sponge. The action will be visible in 15 minutes – the sheets will easily lag behind the wall;
- vinyl wallpapers. This variety consists of a paper backing and vinyl on the surface. To remove them, you need to break their integrity with a knife or a wallpaper tiger. Then wet the entire canvas – within 20 minutes the glue will lose its properties. Separate the sheet from above with a spatula and pull it down – due to its density, the wallpaper will not tear, but completely come off the walls. If there are still small pieces, moisten them again and go over with a spatula;
- washable. It will be more difficult with them – it is not easy to soak these two-layer wallpaper. To work, you need a toothed roller. Cuts are made over the entire surface, which then needs to be moistened abundantly. After 30-40 minutes, try to remove them. If you cannot soak the glue, use a steam generator or steam iron.
If you need to remove wallpaper from drywall, then use special tools. These can be purchased at a hardware store. The chemicals will dissolve the adhesive without damaging the surfaces.
Such simple tips will help to make repairs more pleasant and of better quality, without spending extra energy and effort.
