How to quickly and easily paint walls with your own hands: 6 ideas with video
In the spring, we especially want something new: change our wardrobe, update our hairstyle or breathe new life into the familiar interior.
The simplest thing is, of course, the hairstyle. And, oddly enough, small repairs: change textiles, rearrange furniture and repaint walls. Or at least one. Together with an expert from Tikkurila, we have compiled a step-by-step instruction with a video on how to easily update the design of an apartment and add personality to the space – no special skills are required from you if you strictly follow the expert’s advice.
1. Geometric print for one or two
With paint and simple masking tape, you can easily create a geometric pattern that resembles mountain peaks or cracks in ice. Contrasting lines combined with pastel shades of the base will give the space dynamics and make the interior more modern.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: paint of two shades, masking tape, roller.
Paint the surface with paint – this shade will be the color of the pattern.
Make a template with masking tape.
Paint the surface 1-2 coats with another paint.
Remove the masking tape immediately after painting.
Do you want to add a little chic to the interior? Easily! Lace, matte paint, textured finish and some free time will help you to make an accent wall in a decadent romantic or bohemian style.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: lace, matte paint, textured coating, roller, wallpaper spatula.
Paint the surface with deep matt paint
Apply the coating using a roller. Smooth the surface with a wallpaper trowel.
Secure the lace to a dry surface.
Top coat and smooth the surface.
Remove the lace and let the surface dry.
You can add more lace patterns by using a darker shade of the cover. To do this, apply a lighter shade on a dark shade so that the dark background is almost invisible.
Shimmery effect
An elegant background with a shimmering effect will help refresh the classic style in the interior. Harmonious transitions from matt to mother-of-pearl can be achieved with matt paint and a topcoat with a pearlescent glaze effect.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: matt paint, shimmery topcoat, roller.
Paint the entire surface with matt paint.
Apply silver pearlescent glaze or any shimmery topcoat across with an almost dry roller, leaving the primer layer visible.
You can create different patterns with different rollers. Long-haired roller leaves a softer finish.
You can add a little magic to your nursery or create a mesmerizing glowing ornament at no extra cost with paint, a stencil, and glowing varnish.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: matte paint in two contrasting tones, luminous varnish, roller, stencil.
Paint the surface with deep matt paint.
Using stencils, apply white matte paint.
3 Apply glowing varnish on top of the stencils. For the brightest glow, it is recommended to apply at least three coats.
5. Space for work or study
You can quickly zone a space and create a functional corner for work or study with blackboard paint and magnet-effect coating. With some free time, you will have a great work area that will be appreciated by both children and adults.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: blackboard paint, magnetic paint, roller, masking tape.
Paint the surface with 2 coats of chalkboard paint and let dry.
Limit the area to be painted with the magnetic paint with masking tape.
Stir magnetic paint thoroughly.
Apply the paint in a thick layer using a short nap roller.
Paint the surface in three coats, waiting for each coat to dry completely.
Patina effect
You can create an industrial accent wall with a patina effect. A simple layering technique will add depth to color that comes alive when lit.
Implementation of the idea
You will need: pearlescent paint, matte paint, sponge, roller, acrylate glaze.
Paint the entire surface with pearlescent paint.
Apply a decorative matte paint with a sponge to the dried surface. Wet a sponge and blur the resulting pattern.
Let the surface dry again.
Apply acrylate glaze to dry surface.
