The hatch of the washing machine is equipped with a rubber seal – cuff. It is she who protects the machine from leakage during washing. During operation, the cuff may wear out, leak, or be damaged by a foreign object. In this case, you will need to make an independent replacement.

Why is the cuff damaged?
Leakage may occur in the CMA due to damage to the sealing gum. What is the cuff of the hatch exposed to:
- Natural wear. Rubber is exposed to various temperatures, hot and cold water, detergents. Strong drum vibrations and friction also affect the life of the seal.
- Friction. In addition to the constantly rotating drum and the laundry in it, which rub against the cuff, there may be other reasons. In this case, you need to remove the item that contributes to wear.
- Damage from foreign objects and items of clothing. Small items from pockets, locks and zippers can all make a hole in the sealing rubber of the washer.
What is needed when replacing
First of all, you need to choose the right cuff for replacement. Always look at the make and model of your SMA and choose tires accordingly. You do not need to take a similar product, you need to choose only the original one for a specific washing machine model.
Also don’t forget to purchase clamps if yours are damaged or need to be replaced. Some CMs have metal clamps, others have plastic clamps. The latter are much cheaper.
Now you can prepare the instrument. You will need:
- flat screwdriver;
- passages;
- soap solution;
- sandpaper.
The order of work
Before inserting the elastic into the washing machine, it must be removed correctly. This is easy to do by removing the front panel, but it will take a lot of time.
In addition, in some models the front wall is not removed. In this case, do this:
- Disconnect the machine from the mains by pulling the plug out of the socket.
- Holding the door firmly, unscrew the hinges of its fastening. Remove the door.
- Having unbent a cuff, remove a collar, using a screw-driver.
- In a circle, remove the edges of the rubber and tuck into the drum.
- Pull the inner collar slightly up and away from the tank.
- Pull out the clamp together with the cuff.
You removed the rubber band. Before you put the cuff on the washing machine, you need to prepare a seat. During operation, powder accumulated there, sediment from tap water. Therefore, wash it with soapy water and, if necessary, clean it with fine sandpaper.
To make it as easy as possible to put the elastic on the drum of the washing machine, grease the seat with soapy water. It is not recommended to use other lubricants, because all this will fall into the drum during washing.
Installation
- Marking will help to correctly position the cuff. Usually, the triangle indicates the top of the rubber, and the bottom is the hole for the hose.
- Fill the sealing rubber on the tank, referring to the markings.
- With the seal in place, thread it inside the drum.
- Unscrew the two screws, remove the door lock by opening the connectors.
- Insert a screwdriver into the lock hole. It will allow you to keep the clamp stationary.
- Carefully put on the inner collar.
- Attach the lock in place.
- Spread the edges of the cuff around the outer rim of the washer. Use a soap solution for convenience.
- Install the outer collar by tucking it over the edges of the cuff.
- Screw the hatch door into place.
Now try to close the hatch. If it turns out easily, the sealing cuff is installed correctly. Run a wash program to test the seal.
