For any injury, apply cold first to relieve pain and bruising.

It is important to restrict the movement of the injured arm or leg with hard objects such as perches or planks. You can use cardboard folded several times and fasten it tightly to the limb using available means (nylon tights or stockings).

Rinse with sterile or antiseptic liquid, in extreme cases, clean water will do. If this is not at hand, simply bandage it to keep out dirt.

When an artery is damaged, a tourniquet is applied above the wound until the bleeding stops completely. In the case of a vein, it is closed with a tight cotton-gauze bandage.
