How to protect plants from disease: tips

Forecasters promise daily rainfall in June, and this weather is ideal for the spread of plant diseases. Watch out for their first symptoms. Our consultant Aleksey Rybin, an agronomist and a candidate of agricultural sciences, shares useful advice.

It starts with a white bloom on the leaves (especially in gooseberries and currants), it thickens over time, turns gray and becomes covered with black dots. The leaves dry up. Shoots are underdeveloped, bent, buds and flowers die, fruits fall off. It is an aggressive disease but is easily treatable.

What to do: pollinate the plant with colloidal sulfur or wood ash, or treat with a solution of copper sulfate 3-5% or Topaz.

Lightning disease, in three days can destroy the crop of courgettes and cucumbers. It starts with the appearance of yellowish spots on the leaves, and a couple of days later, spots of powdery plaque appear on the underside of the leaf – a sign that the plant can no longer be saved.

What to do: spray diseased plants and neighboring healthy plants with Topaz, Vectra, Ridomil Gold.

Their sign is spots, varied in color and shape, often with a dark rim. Leaves are colored like autumn leaves and fall off. Roses suffer greatly – the fungal disease spreads quickly in rainy weather.

What to do: process the plants as soon as a day without rain comes out. Do well with black spot “Skor”, “Abiga Peak”, “Pure color”. They take effect after 2 hours.

They begin with the appearance on the leaves of a small shapeless spot of gray or brown color, increasing in size. Plants stunted, do not bloom, turn yellow and wither. The base of the stem, roots, rhizomes and bulbs soften and rot.

What to do: completely remove diseased plants and burn. Spray the remaining plantings with a solution of microelements and growth stimulants to increase the immunity of plants. Avoid fertilizers and top dressing during this period.
