How to properly wash your blinds
Various materials are used for the manufacture of window blinds: plastic, bamboo, wood, fabric and metal. In order not to spoil the material, you need to know how to properly wash the blinds. If you use the wrong technique or detergent, then they can be completely unusable.
How to clean blinds: basic methods
There are several washing techniques. They take into account the material from which the blinds are made.
- The easiest option is to use a special panicle. In this case, you just need to overwrite the plates. Suitable for almost all types of material.
- To wash plastic blinds, you need to prepare a water solution of detergent. Stir a little powder or dishwashing liquid in warm water. Using a cloth dipped in soapy water, wipe each plate. Finally, the soap composition will need to be washed off with clean water. We also soak a clean napkin in it and wipe the strips clean.
- If the surface of the blinds is greasy – this is possible when they are hanging in the kitchen – then a different method should be used. Fill the bathtub about 1/3 full of water. Pour in the dishwashing detergent, it contains fat-dissolving components. Stir well to create a good foam. Then remove the blinds and put them in the prepared foam. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes to dissolve the dirt. Take a brush and wash each plate thoroughly. Drain and rinse the blinds under the shower. Let them dry and hang on the window.
- Do not wash blinds made of bamboo or wood with water. Here you can use feather dusters, dry sponges, or a vacuum cleaner. After cleaning, be sure to use wood care products.
- Fabric (vertical) blinds, so that they retain their rigidity, are impregnated with special means. Manufacturers recommend only vacuuming the lamellas. But if the fabric is very dirty, then the blinds are allowed to be washed. To do this, you need to remove the lamellas, roll each one individually, and put them in bags for washing delicate fabrics. In the bathroom, prepare a soapy solution and put the bags in them for an hour. Then rinse them in clean water. Let the liquid drain. Unfold the rolls and, without squeezing, return the slats to their place.
When choosing a method for cleaning lamellas, it is necessary to take into account the type of material from which they are made.
You can use any liquid detergent to wash the blinds, such as ordinary dishwashing liquid. Liquid laundry detergent will also work. You can also use the usual one, but in this case it must be thoroughly stirred so that all the grains are dissolved, and rinsed for longer.
Washing blinds yourself is easy, follow these simple rules and your windows will shine clean again.
