Of course, any vegetables and fruits should be thoroughly washed before eating and cooking. And it’s not just about dirt, but about possible bacteria and chemicals. In order not to get an allergic reaction or poisoning, you need to wash the food correctly.
Vegetables
Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and eggplants, pumpkin, pods, to begin with, clear of earth and sand under running water. Then with a special brush, go over the peel and wash it with your hands again – under running water.
Ground vegetables, such as potatoes or carrots, begin by removing any clumps of soil. Then fill them with warm water and let stand, turn off. Rinse off the remaining dirt from the vegetables with a brush again, rinse under warm and then under cold water.
Onions are first peeled from the husk and the root is cut off, and only then washed under cold water. Corn is also washed peeled from leaves.
White cabbage is washed first, and then the withered and damaged leaves are removed from the top. The stump is thrown away, since all nitrates are concentrated in it. Cauliflower is soaked in salt water to remove bugs from the inflorescences, and then simply rinsed in cold water.
Fruit
Those fruits, the peel of which you also eat, for example, apples, pears, plums, as well as bananas and pomegranates, should be washed under water with soap and water. Scald citrus fruits with boiling water, and then rinse under running cold water.
It is advisable to wash the watermelon or melon not only with soap, but also rub the peel with a brush. And the grapes are simply washed gently under running water.
Imported fruits should be washed from paraffin with a brush for 3 minutes, and it is better to soak them altogether for an hour.
How to wash berries
Berries, especially those grown on the ground, can become a source of bacteria and contain allergenic pollen. Therefore, first rinse the berries in running water. Then scald with boiling water, and then soak for 10 minutes in cold water. Vitamins will remain, and all unnecessary will be washed off.
