How to trim the claws of a cat: step by step instructions
The process usually uses special nail clippers or clippers for human nails. Only a well-sharpened tool should be used. Otherwise, the claws are not cut, but break off.
The sequence of actions is as follows:
• the tool and hands are treated with a disinfecting solution;
• the kitten is taken in your arms, stroking and communicating with him in an affectionate tone;
• the foot is gently taken in hand, trying to prevent it from slipping;
• do not press too hard on the pad to open the claws;
• the process is performed in the light to avoid damage to blood vessels. Only the free edges of the claw are trimmed without touching the pink tissue (indentation – 1-2 mm);
• if necessary, the edges of the claws are polished;
• the pet is praised, stroked, even if the behavior leaves much to be desired. He is encouraged with his favorite treat.
Sometimes careless movement of the instrument will result in bleeding. Calm the injured animal and treat the wound with hydrogen peroxide.
Some owners resort to claw removal from a domestic cat. Doing this only out of a desire to keep your property intact is the height of frivolity. It is much more humane to figure out how you can trim the claws of a cat. Those who really love their animal do this.
