Spring is a time of renewal and lightness. What a pleasure – to finally change warm down jackets and traction winter shoes for a weightless trench coat and open shoes! But even in the spring euphoria, we must not forget that someday a new winter will come. Our task is to keep winter clothes and shoes in such a condition in the summer so that they serve longer and look worthy in the coming season.
Winter shoes get a lot during operation: water, snow, mud, salt, road reagents, frost. Therefore, before storing boots or boots, they need to be properly cleaned.
To wash shoes made of genuine leather, use a soap solution, just try to minimize the time of exposure to water on the surface of the product. Quickly wash with a sponge and soapy water – and wipe dry as soon as possible.
The inner surface of boots or shoes can be treated with a disinfecting shoe spray or put inside a cotton pad moistened with hydrogen peroxide.
The washed shoes are allowed to dry properly at room temperature in a well-ventilated place, not near a battery.
A Russian proverb teaches us to prepare a sleigh in the summer. Take a good look at a pair of shoes – maybe they need a little fix?
We will be practical and will return winter boots for repair in the spring – let them put new heels and eliminate other minor defects
At the beginning of the winter season, everyone will start to overwhelm the shoemakers with work, and we will already be fully armed.
Dry and clean winter shoes must be properly stuffed from the inside with paper or special foam or inflatable spacers that the pair was equipped with at the time of sale. This is to prevent the shoes from shrinking, shrinking, or warping during storage. Put a bag of silica gel inside each boot and boot (small balls in bags that are put in each shoe box: they absorb moisture).
Be sure to lubricate the leather surface of boots and boots with a special shoe polish – color to match or colorless. Vaseline or castor oil is an economical option.
We put the shoes in boxes and put them for storage in a dry, cool room.
Note: boots with high tops spend the summer stretched out to their full height, and not broken in the ankle area. High soft boots are kept suspended
Lovers of suede shoes will have to fork out for good care products for the sake of elegance. For example, a water repellent spray will keep them from being exposed to water and dirt during wear.
When cleaning for the summer, suede boots are not washed with water, but cleaned with a flannel or rubber brush. You can use a special foamy spray cleaner: cover dry soiled areas with the composition, hold it for a little and clean it with a sponge. Then everything is as usual – ventilated, recruited from the inside to maintain shape and put into boxes.
Elegant and cozy knits can also last for several seasons if handled with care. Wool and cashmere items are hand washed in water not hotter than 30 ° C with the mildest detergent (there are powders in the detergent departments in stores with a note – for washing knitted items). Sweaters and pullovers are not dried on a hanger or hanging, but unfolded, for example, on a folding dryer with a dry towel.
Clean dry products are stored on shelves or in special containers in closets. To prevent things from attracting moths, transfer them to a sachet with herbs – lavender, tansy, mint, tobacco.
Knitted hats are kept in the same way. Washed according to the same principle as sweaters, scarves, pashminas, stoles, they dry out and spend the summer hanging on racks in the closet in a straightened form.
Jackets with down, “europuff”, synthetic winterizer, holofiber are washed by hand at low temperature or in the mode for washing outerwear in a typewriter.
To prevent the natural fluff in the jacket from falling into lumps, do not use ordinary detergent for washing – it “kills” the lightness of the fluff and leaves streaks after washing.
Experienced people recommend not to wash the down jacket, but to gently wash it by hanging it over the bathroom: we clean the places of special pollution with a soapy brush and rinse it out of the shower with running water.
Nowadays, there are a number of specialized detergents for washing down jackets – colorless soap solutions without chlorine.
The best way to store a fur coat is in a special “refrigerator” – a well-conditioned room with a temperature not exceeding 6 ° C. If it is not possible to live so widely, we manage on our own.
Forward-thinking people install wardrobes in the coolest places in the house.
Before leaving for summer “rest”, a fur coat or sheepskin coat needs to be cleaned. A great option is to use dry cleaning services, but you can do it yourself.
We wipe greasy spots on the fur and greasy areas on the sheepskin coat with a mixture of vodka and 9 percent vinegar, taken in equal parts. The fur that has become tarnished from dust is cleaned with potato starch – the product is sprinkled with it thoroughly, and then the fur coat is thoroughly combed and shaken to remove the starch particles that have collected dirt on themselves.
A fur coat or sheepskin coat should be thoroughly ventilated in a draft, but away from sunlight. Then pack the product in a cover made of natural material treated with antimol spray and hang it in the closet. Keep in mind: the fur coat needs “freedom”. Fur should not be squeezed by other things.
Darkness, dryness, coolness, spaciousness – that’s what a fur winter hat needs during storage.
Its sworn enemies are dampness, direct sunlight and dry heat of batteries, vacuum bags, tight creasing, and, of course, moths.
We wipe the greasy places on the cap with a mixture of ammonia and vodka (50 to 50), comb and dry the product. If there is no special hat blank or spacer ring, we use the method of our mothers and grandmothers – we fill the hat from the inside with a newspaper. Then we wrap it with a cloth treated with antimol spray or paper, and put it in a cardboard box.
Felt hats must be protected from moisture while wearing, and before putting them away for summer storage, the hat must be carefully cleaned. One way is to brush with regular table salt. Dip the moistened brush in salt and process the fields and crown of the product.
In places where the hat touches the head, it can be lightly cleaned with a napkin moistened with diluted water with ammonia, without allowing the product to get wet.
Again, we need cardboard boxes. But if you have an excess of free top shelves in your dressing room, wrap the hats in a clean, dry cloth and place them on the very top, straightening the brim. There, the undisturbed hat will survive until the cold weather, without losing its shape.
